Maul: Lockdown by Joe Schreiber is out today in mass market paperback.
Set before the events of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, this new novel is a thrilling follow-up to Star Wars: Darth Plagueis.
It’s kill or be killed in the space penitentiary that houses the galaxy’s worst criminals, where convicts face off in gladiatorial combat while an underworld gambling empire reaps the profits of the illicit blood sport. But the newest contender in this savage arena, as demonic to behold as he is deadly to challenge, is fighting for more than just survival. His do-or-die mission, for the dark masters he serves, is to capture the ultimate weapon: an object that will enable the Sith to conquer the galaxy.
Sith lords Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious are determined to possess the prize. And one of the power-hungry duo has his own treacherous plans for it. But first, their fearsome apprentice must take on a bloodthirsty prison warden, a cannibal gang, cutthroat crime lord Jabba the Hutt, and an unspeakable alien horror. No one else could brave such a gauntlet of death and live. But no one else is the dreaded dark-side disciple known as Darth Maul.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. I did some catching up, so there are quite a few this week.
Bombad Radio: Episode 129 has an interview with Star Wars: The Old Republic writer Charles Boyd who talks about what the game designers are working on next giving gamers an idea of what to expect in the way of new content, and what isn’t likely. He also mentions the kind of studies they’ve done to studying player’s behaviors, which was pretty interesting. Very informative episode.
Episode 130 is a Star Wars free-for-all as multiple guests all weigh in on a variety of Star Wars topics. They talk about Mark Hamill and Liam Neeson being in The Clone Wars Season 6, Episode VII news and rumors, and lots more.
Coffee with Kenobi: Rebels Reactions #3 features guest Craig Dickinson as he and the hosts discuss Star Wars Rebels. As can be expected, there’s some insightful commentary on the characters and themes of the show as they cover Kanan, Ezra and Zeb (note this was prior to the reveals of Hera and Sabine). I rather liked the observation regarding the biblical sounding names and it’ll be interesting if the show goes any further into that theme. Nice discussion and worth a listen. Looking forward to hearing them discuss the new female characters as I’m very intrigued by Sabine.
Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #5 starts out with guest Lisa Granshaw (The Daily Dot) and a Star Wars Rebels discussion which also touches on the controversial male orientation of Disney and Hasbro’s marketing for the show. Afterwards special guest Clare Grant joins them to talk Team Unicorn and lots of other fun Star Wars and geeky topics. Great show, so make sure this one hits your playlist. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Bombad Radio: Episode 124 features an interview with author Richard Lee Byers covering his latest book, The Reaver, which is part of the Forgotten Realms The Sundering series. As with most of Bombad Radio’s interviews, this one is really good. While spoiler free, they still dive into the nature and subject matter of the book, touch on Richard’s career experience in psychology (and how that has helped or not helped his career), and take a look behind the scenes at the creation of The Sundering series.
Episode 122 features an interview with Benton Jew, one of the storyboard artists for The Phantom Menace, and a longtime ILM employee. Benton talks about storyboarding, working with George Lucas and how he differs from other directors, designing Edgar for Men In Black, and creating Jedi Master Oppo Rancis.
Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #12 has a special interview with James Arnold Taylor. While James has been making the rounds on various podcasts, Cory and Dan manage to cover some new topics and angles as they get James to talk about how the events in the The Clone Wars changed Anakin and Obi-Wan’s relationship in the overall story. Fans of Obi-Wan will not want to miss this episode. They also get around to James’ new book, JAT 365 and how that idea came about, before looping back into Star Wars and some intriguing discussion on familiar religious elements and motifs in the films. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Coffee with Kenobi: Book Chat with Joe Schreiber is one of the best Maul: Lockdown interviews I’ve heard yet. They dive deep into the book covering motivations, character direction, the development of the book and a whole lot more without spoiling anything. It’s an excellent interview with great audio quality and I highly recommend checking it out. It gives some really nice insight into the novel and how Joe went about writing it.
Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #3 features special guest Mark Newbold and lots of fun Star Wars discussion. They talk Year of the Fangirl, fan feedback, the Millennium Falcon as a character and much more. Listening to this episode really picked up my spirits. Definitely a good one to listen to.
Full of Sith: Episode XLVIII starts off with an interview with author Joe Schreiber covering his latest Star Wars novel, Maul: Lockdown. Afterwards, Bryan, Mike and Bobbie dive into some Star Wars news and rumors. The audio with Joe is a little rough, but it’s a good interview.
RADIO 1138: Episode January 2014 begins with a full year in review of all the major Star Wars events that happened in 2013. Then they speak with Maul: Lockdown author Joe Schreiber for a very nice discussion about his latest Star Wars novel.
RebelForce Radio: Episode 1.17.14 follows up on some feedback they received on their year in review episodes, including Kyle Newman’s opinions on Star Wars LEGO. They also cover the latest news and rumors for Star Wars Episode VII and the possible Boba Fett spin off film. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…
