Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Bombad Radio: Episode 152 features yet another fantastic interview, this time with the creator of the Forgotten Realms, and author, Ed Greenwood. Jeremiah pulls out some excellent questions for Ed, and Ed does not disappoint with his answers. He shares some great stories about the Forgotten Realms, his part in it, and how things have worked out. If you haven’t read The Herald yet and you’re worried about spoilers, don’t be, this episode is completely spoiler free. A must listen to for Forgotten Realms fans and a good interview to check out for readers in general. The topics Ed discusses have a lot of merit in being applied in other franchises and in different mediums.
Episode 153 is a doubleheader with authors Richard Lee Byers and David Farland (Dave Wolverton). Both authors give some really nice writing advice which is great for anyone who is thinking about or does writing, but it’s also very insightful for readers, giving them a deeper understanding of the tips and tricks of the trade. Plus there’s some discussion about their own books which readers will also enjoy. Really awesome episode and definitely worth a listen.
Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #8 includes an interview with Star Wars Rebels voice actress Vanessa Marshall who talks about recording for the show, charity and fans, and what she doesn’t know about A New Dawn. Teresa and Tricia give a quick recap of Star Wars Weekends, and later on, Bethany from the Star Wars Report joins them as they talk about the characters of Star Wars Rebels and the actors of Star Wars Episode VII. Lots of good discussion on all things Star Wars, both television and the movies.
Full of Sith: Episode LXIX features special guests Amy Ratcliffe and ‘Jawa’ James Floyd as they join Bryan and his son at Origins where they talk a little about the convention, Aaron Allston, and Timothy Zahn. It’s pretty brief, and quickly kicks in to Bryan’s interview with Nick Gillard at Salt Lake Fan Experience (audio is courtesy of Bombad Radio, so if you’ve already listened to Bombad Radio’s podcast of the audio for that panel, you’re covered).
Book Review: ‘The Herald’ by Ed Greenwood

Ed Greenwood brings an end to The Sundering with The Herald. However, can his book do the series justice by wrapping up this massive, world changing event in just one final novel? More importantly, can a new reader like me jump into an Ed Greenwood book and fall in love with a character like Elminster so late in his career? Click here to read our full review and find out.

Will the Nightseer Shar, mistress of the great and fearsome Shadovar, seize the opportunity to blanket the world with her Shadow Weave?
With the help of Storm Silverhand and his protégé Amarune, Elminster works frantically to strengthen the Weave’s tethers and forestall what seems an inevitable reckoning. But other interests machinate for their own sinister ends.

Paul S. Kemp Update
April 4, 2014 at 7:05 pm | Posted in Books | Leave a commentTags: a conversation in blood, erevis cale, forgotten realms, paul s. kemp, tales of egil and nix
Paul S. Kemp’s third Tales of Egil and Nix novel was originally set for a summer 2014 release, but that was prior to Del Rey buying the series from Angry Robot Books. Paul posted an update on Twitter indicating A Conversation in Blood will be out next year, and in the interim, something else will be coming out.
Roqoo Depot: @Paulskemp is ‘A Conversation in Blood’ still on schedule for this summer?
Paul S. Kemp: @RoqooDepot Next year, because something else will come out in the interim. :-)
With the recent release of Paul’s Forgotten Realms novel The Godborn, which was book two in The Sundering series, I thought maybe that meant we would be getting a follow up book. Apparently not.
Roqoo Depot: @Paulskemp hmm, does that mean will be getting another Realms novel before Egil & Nix?
Paul S. Kemp: @RoqooDepot Not a Realms novel, no. WotC and I are having a family dispute.
So, Kemp fans can look forward to getting another book soon, but it won’t be Forgotten Realms or Tales of Egil and Nix.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
501stCast: Episode 80 is a bit of a short episode. Ed Cook fills in for Scott Allen as co-host, and this show focuses on 501st Legion troop reports and upcoming events. Nice to hear that the Legion had some pretty good charity success at Toronto Comic Con with over $6,000 raised with shoot-a-trooper. Good podcast to check out if you want to keep up to date on Legion news.
Assembly of Geeks: “Grumpy Gamorrean Godzilla” covers a variety of geeky topics which a focus on television and film news and rumors. Lots of entertaining discussion, and I really enjoyed their gag with the giant Gamorrean trampling Mos Eisley. Good way to stay up on tv and movie news for sci-fi and superhero stuff.
Bombad Radio: Episode 131 has a nice interview with Star Wars voice actor David Ankrum who voiced Wedge in Star Wars: A New Hope. It’s a very upbeat interview as David talks about his job in Star Wars, the other film work he’s done, and how he transitioned into writing and working as a talent agent.
Episode 132 is hosted by Jeremiah and Jason and begins their discussion of the novels of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Tearing apart and assigning praise, the hosts ambitiously go through nearly every Star Wars novel to give listeners and overview of the EU and what’s to come. In future episodes, they’ll be diving into deeper discussion on specific books, but in this episode they touch on all of them. If you’ve already the books, you may not agree with all their opinions, but I have to give them props for actually discussing each one and giving new readers an idea of what to expect. This would be an excellent episode to listen to if you’re new to the EU and would like a crash course on the books.

Bombad Radio: Episode 124 features an interview with author Richard Lee Byers covering his latest book, The Reaver, which is part of the Forgotten Realms The Sundering series. As with most of Bombad Radio’s interviews, this one is really good. While spoiler free, they still dive into the nature and subject matter of the book, touch on Richard’s career experience in psychology (and how that has helped or not helped his career), and take a look behind the scenes at the creation of The Sundering series.
Episode 122 features an interview with Benton Jew, one of the storyboard artists for The Phantom Menace, and a longtime ILM employee. Benton talks about storyboarding, working with George Lucas and how he differs from other directors, designing Edgar for Men In Black, and creating Jedi Master Oppo Rancis.
Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #12 has a special interview with James Arnold Taylor. While James has been making the rounds on various podcasts, Cory and Dan manage to cover some new topics and angles as they get James to talk about how the events in the The Clone Wars changed Anakin and Obi-Wan’s relationship in the overall story. Fans of Obi-Wan will not want to miss this episode. They also get around to James’ new book, JAT 365 and how that idea came about, before looping back into Star Wars and some intriguing discussion on familiar religious elements and motifs in the films.
