Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review including my reviews of the live podcast panels I was able to attend at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim.

Coffee With Kenobi: Celebration live panel was a lot of fun and a great way to start the day. Everyone was high off the new trailer for The Force Awakens, and Coffee With Kenobi was able to keep the fun going. They had John ‘Dak’ Morton on as a guest to talk Star Wars. He compare the film to some of Coppola’s greatest movies, The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, and talked about how Star Wars stood out from films like that because of how it inspires people. They discussed fears and overcoming them, and how those themes tie into Star Wars. John also talked about visiting the people who waiting in line overnight, his thoughts on Star Wars Rebels and Ezra’s character, and the panel he’s doing at Celebration that focuses on military personnel and Star Wars. As always, John is a great guest and they touched on some good topics. Afterwards Dan and Cory covered The Force Awakens panel that kicked off the day, touching on Kathleen Kennedy, BB-8, Rey as a scavenger, the trailer, the impact of Han and Chewie, Mark Hamill’s narration, the passing of the sword and even the cinematography. Their second guest was Jeff McGee from Assembly of Geeks and Marvin Dog Media. Jeff chatted with them about the collectibles at Celebration like the Bossk hoodie and Funko Fett. And wrapping things up was Kevin Liell from Norse Legion and a giveaway of some of their cool Star Wars jewelry. I have to admit, I was very impressed with the panel. They pulled off a live show like pro’s with great guests, great discussion and lots of fun. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks:The Fandom Strikes Back” covers a lot of stuff including Video Game: The Movie, The LEGO Movie, a study on kids to see if they would tell the truth, a case of a child getting bullied over a Spiderman lunch box, the Rian Johnson Star Wars news, Daniel Radcliffe wanting to be in a new standalone Batman movie, and more. Excellent podcast to check out for all the latest geeky news and lots of great discussion.

Bombad Radio: Episode 154 features a very entertaining interview with Mark Meer. Mark is probably most well known as the voice of Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect games. What I didn’t realize was that Mark’s normal speaking voice is the same one he used for the games, thus for the entire episode you get to hear Commander Shepard. Mark talks about his comedy work, improv, how he got started with Bioware, his other work like Dragon Age, playing D&D, and perhaps the biggest highlight of the show, he does his Vorcha voice. I didn’t realize Mark did a bunch of the voices of the aliens in the game, and it was pretty amazing to hear him do the Vorcha as it’s spot on without any extra effects. Great episode for Mass Effect fans.

Episode 156 is another interview episode, this time with game creator and author Jeff Grubb. Let me just say that this interview is awesome. Jeff talks about how he was tasked with meeting Ed Greenwood to buy Forgotten Realms, working with Ed in those early days, and writing the novel Cormyr with him. He talks about leaving TSR and how he wound up with WOTC later on. He covers his Star Wars novel and how he was originally tasked to write a videogame tie-in novel, but the game was cancelled. They then asked him to write a The Old Republic MMO tie-in novel, but he couldn’t since he was working on another MMO, Guild Wars. Thus they asked him a third time if he would do an original novel. After tossing out his pitches for a Jaxxon novel and a Jar Jar novel which would have ended with his death, surrounded by his children with a heroes farewell, they decided to go with a Hutt book. Jeff talks about writing for Magic the Gathering and The Brothers’ War. They cover all of that and a lot more. A must listen to for Jeff Grubb fans, he has some great stories.

Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #20 features an interview with Bobby Roberts (Full of Sith) as they talk about the nature and role of rumors. It’s a good discussion and worth checking out, plus it wraps up their series of interview they’ve been doing with the hosts of Full of Sith. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

podcastsinreviewHere is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks:Surviving A Giant Monster Attack” kicks off with a monster themed intro then segues into a discussion on how the military would deal with Godzilla. They also talk about the Star Trek 3 director, Denis Lawson’s response to Episode VII,  the Zac Efron Daredevil rumor, the Channing Tatum Gambit rumor, the look of Ben Affleck in the batsuit and the batmobile, and Jessie Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor. They also talk about tv series season finales like Once Upon A Time, Castle, Agents of SHIELD, Person of Interest, Revenge, The Black List, The Goldbergs and Arrow. Tons of movie and television discussion which makes this a good episode for catching up on entertainment news.

Bombad Radio: Episode 147 gives a quick recap of their past Mass Effect coverage and interviews before announcing their plans to renew coverage as things get heated up for Mass Effect 4 which will be getting press at this year’s E3. After that, they talk with Jeopardy champion Arthur Chu. I know, it’s an odd choice of a guest for podcast that typically features Star Wars, film and video game celebrities, but it’s actually kind of interesting. Arthur talks about what’s involved in getting on the show, how you can prep for it, and the fallout of going viral. He also talks about voice over work, a field he’s trying to break out in.

Episode 148 has a nice audio recording of Nick Gillard’s panel at Salt Lake Fan Experience. Nick Gillard is the stunt coordinator who choreographed the lightsaber fights for the prequels. He talks about becoming a stunt man, the hardest stunts, working on Indiana Jones, sword fighting with the Star Wars actors, his favorite stunt, choreographing the fights and much more. The Q&A at the end asked him about the Grievous versus Obi-Wan scene, what actor was the hardest to work with (which turned out to be Ian) and some funny off the wall questions. Good episode to check out. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…
