Martha Wells‘ book The Death of the Necromancer is now available for free entirely online at Black Gate Magazine. It’s a good book and worth checking out. Martha has a little bit of trivia on the book here, along with links if you’d like to purchase the eBook version or other stories in the series.
R.A. Salvatore fans can pickup a signed copy of The Companions and The Last Threshold via the e-signings page on his website. Bob will be in Columbus, OH on August 14 at the Thurber House for a book signing if you’d like to meet him in person.
Troy Denning‘s Crucible will be out next week and fans in the Roseville, MN area can swing by Barnes & Noble at 7:00 PM on July 9th to get their copies signed. Event details can be found here. Continue Reading Around the Web…
EA/BioWare The Old Republic Update
May 8, 2013 at 12:22 pm | Posted in News, Star Wars: The Old Republic | Leave a commentTags: patch 2.1, patch 2.2, tor
Big news coming from EA and BioWare. In their Q4 Earnings conference call yesterday, EA said that Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s change from a subscription only service to a free-to-play/subscription hybrid has created growth for the title. In the call (the transcript of which you can read here), Blake Jorgensen, Chief Financial Officer for EA, said the following:
“The game has attracted new free-to-play members and total active users are up. We continue to deliver new game updates for the community every six weeks, helping drive subscribers and free-to-play consumers to the game.”

Dye modules, releasing in Game Update 2.1, will allow players to change the color of their armor and clothing (for items above level 15).
That’s certainly good news, especially due to the myriad of predictions that heralded the switch to free-to-play as the death of the title. This news is made even better by an update by community manager Eric Musco. The post, also released yesterday, over at The Old Republic Forums details the release dates for the next two game updates. Game Update 2.1: Customization, which features new customization options, Cartel market items, and the addition of the Cathar species will release on May 14th, with Game Update 2.2 dropping on June 11th.
While many decry that Game Update 2.1 is just a way to add content to the game’s Cartel Marketplace, Eric was quick to counter that. Both updates will feature “the usual bug fixes, quality of life improvements, etc. which you have come to expect”. While he didn’t go into detail about features for update 2.2, he did say it will not feature any new Cartel items. He also teased that the Gree Enclave will be making a return “soon”. You can read the full post here.
All in all this is solid news for fans of the game, as well as subscribers who worried their long term support would be for naught and that the game was going to shutdown. We’ll keep you posted on any more news and expect our full review of Game Update 2.1 and Update 2.2 when they release.

Conspiracy Report: What Will Disney Cancel Next?
March 25, 2013 at 9:09 am | Posted in Conspiracy Report, Disney, Entertainment, Episode VII, Humor, Movies, Opinion, Regular Feature, Star Wars, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Television, The Clone Wars, Video Games | 4 CommentsWe live in interesting times. Star Wars Episode VII is on the distant horizon with a pile of Star Wars films behind it. And then there’s this mouse going around throwing away all our toys while we’re distracted. The 3D re-releases, Star Wars 1313, Detours, The Clone Wars…it’s enough to drive a distraught Hutt swan-diving into the nearest sarlacc.
As any good conspiracist, we’re focusing all our immense wealth and resources (two refurbished mouse droids and a for-hire Gamorrean private eye who works for food) on what the mouse plans to target next. So, we called up our inside source Pluto to find out what Disney will cancel next. You won’t believe what we found out.
According to good old Pluto, the house of mouse has a list of items they’re crossing off one by one. While we’ve already seen quite a few projects marked off already, there are still five high priorities left for the trash bin. Continue Reading Conspiracy Report: What Will Disney Cancel Next?…
