Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 202 features an interview with author Christie Golden as they talk about her latest book Dark Disciple. Christie talks about the project and the unique challenges involved. She also mentions that the first four episodes of the eight episode TCW arc had animatics which she was able to watch as part of her research for the book. The interview also touches on Starcraft and Warcraft. Good interview overall.

EndorCast: Episode IV has an audio clip of Robert Englund laying the story straight on his involvement with Star Wars and how he got Mark Hamill to audition, which is pretty cool. They also have guests Gus Lopez and Amy from the Ewok Builders Club on to talk about the club which is still pretty new and gaining momentum. Afterwards they talk with the Perales family about cosplaying as Star Wars Rebels characters. Nice episode with a cosplaying focus you might want to check out.

Fly Casual: Episode 44 has some news from Kylo Ren’s stuntman who talks about the security onset. Trank talks about fan hate, and they get into some toy news with the San Diego Comic Con Hasbro six inch Black Series The Force Awakens trooper exclusive, the Han and Tauntaun, the Funko C-3PO, Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars Rebels figures, and they talk a little about the E3 Star Wars: Battlefront videos.

Collectors Cast: Episode 9 features a whole lot of Steve Sansweet as he joins James to pretty much co-host much of the show. Steve talks about Rancho Obi-Wan, Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, recent events, and there’s an audio segment from Star Wars Celebration Anaheim where Steve gives an audio tour of the Rancho Obi-Wan experience. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review including my reviews of the live podcast panels I was able to attend at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim.

Coffee With Kenobi: Celebration live panel was a lot of fun and a great way to start the day. Everyone was high off the new trailer for The Force Awakens, and Coffee With Kenobi was able to keep the fun going. They had John ‘Dak’ Morton on as a guest to talk Star Wars. He compare the film to some of Coppola’s greatest movies, The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, and talked about how Star Wars stood out from films like that because of how it inspires people. They discussed fears and overcoming them, and how those themes tie into Star Wars. John also talked about visiting the people who waiting in line overnight, his thoughts on Star Wars Rebels and Ezra’s character, and the panel he’s doing at Celebration that focuses on military personnel and Star Wars. As always, John is a great guest and they touched on some good topics. Afterwards Dan and Cory covered The Force Awakens panel that kicked off the day, touching on Kathleen Kennedy, BB-8, Rey as a scavenger, the trailer, the impact of Han and Chewie, Mark Hamill’s narration, the passing of the sword and even the cinematography. Their second guest was Jeff McGee from Assembly of Geeks and Marvin Dog Media. Jeff chatted with them about the collectibles at Celebration like the Bossk hoodie and Funko Fett. And wrapping things up was Kevin Liell from Norse Legion and a giveaway of some of their cool Star Wars jewelry. I have to admit, I was very impressed with the panel. They pulled off a live show like pro’s with great guests, great discussion and lots of fun. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

501stCast: Episode 86 features an interview with David Collins on The Comlink, audio of George Lucas discussing his museum, and the usual roundup of troop reports. Even if you’re not looking to catch up with what the 501st is up to, this episode is worth checking out for the David Collins interview. All the troop reports are in the later half of the show if you’re looking to skip them. Personally, I kinda like hearing the troop reports as it’s a good way to stay in touch with what’s going on with the Legion.

Assembly of Geeks:More Star Trek, Hunger Games & Geek Gifts” covers some trailer discussion of Terminator: Genisys, Admiral 80’s thoughts on The Force Awakens teaser trailer, Star Trek 3 discussion, Hunger Games origin stories, movie awards, geek gift ideas, fun with tractor beams, and an introduction to Tricia’s replacement, Amy Marie.

Bombad Radio: Episode 179 features a nice interview the Mark Newbold. Mark talks about getting into fandom, running websites like Lightsaber and now Jedi News, his thoughts on Marvel getting the license for Star Wars back, and other Star Wars topics. Mark is humble as always and it’s a good interview. If you’re a fan of Radio 1138 or visit the site Jedi News UK, you should check out the episode as it’ll give you a better idea of who Mark is and what he and James Burns have accomplished. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Full of Sith: Episode XCII is another cross-over style episode, this time featuring the hosts of the ForceCast, Eric, Erik and Justin. They talk about their introductions to Star Wars, how they got started on the ForceCast, and some discussion on the trailer and the Mace Windu rumors.

Episode XCIII kicks off with a full on discussion of the newly released trailer for The Force Awakens. Mike, Bryan, Bobby and Amy share their favorite moments from the trailer without taking up an hour of time. Instead, the rest of the show focuses on Star Wars Tours. They talk about the old version of the ride, the new incarnation, what the ride is like, and they even get into a Disneyland discussion about Disney jail and Tom Sawyer island. Really fun episode and definitely worth a slot on your playlist.

Now Playing Podcast: to broaden my horizons a bit (and mostly because I enjoyed Star Wars Action News’ cross-over cast for Plastic Galaxy), I decided to try out a few episodes of Now Playing Podcast. Fair warning, if you see a short show, it’s because it’s a teaser for one of their fundraising episodes. Sometimes they’ll do exclusive shows only available to those who donate and they’ll release a short teaser of the full show for everyone to check out. I’d recommend skipping those as it’ll just aggravate you that you can’t listen to the full show. Picking some movies I like at random, I tried their Halloween, Predator, The Lost Boys and Terminator shows. Each is a full discussion with a three host format breaking down the main scenes of the movie, providing a little bit of film trivia, and sharing their thoughts on the film, the actors, the director and the music. I don’t mind, but for those that do, they do use profanity. Overall, it’s kind of entertaining, but I’m not sure if I’ll check out more or not.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 152 features yet another fantastic interview, this time with the creator of the Forgotten Realms, and author, Ed Greenwood. Jeremiah pulls out some excellent questions for Ed, and Ed does not disappoint with his answers. He shares some great stories about the Forgotten Realms, his part in it, and how things have worked out. If you haven’t read The Herald yet and you’re worried about spoilers, don’t be, this episode is completely spoiler free. A must listen to for Forgotten Realms fans and a good interview to check out for readers in general. The topics Ed discusses have a lot of merit in being applied in other franchises and in different mediums.

Episode 153 is a doubleheader with authors Richard Lee Byers and David Farland (Dave Wolverton). Both authors give some really nice writing advice which is great for anyone who is thinking about or does writing, but it’s also very insightful for readers, giving them a deeper understanding of the tips and tricks of the trade. Plus there’s some discussion about their own books which readers will also enjoy. Really awesome episode and definitely worth a listen.

Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #8 includes an interview with Star Wars Rebels voice actress Vanessa Marshall who talks about recording for the show, charity and fans, and what she doesn’t know about A New Dawn. Teresa and Tricia give a quick recap of Star Wars Weekends, and later on, Bethany from the Star Wars Report joins them as they talk about the characters of Star Wars Rebels and the actors of Star Wars Episode VII. Lots of good discussion on all things Star Wars, both television and the movies.

Full of Sith: Episode LXIX features special guests Amy Ratcliffe and ‘Jawa’ James Floyd as they join Bryan and his son at Origins where they talk a little about the convention, Aaron Allston, and Timothy Zahn. It’s pretty brief, and quickly kicks in to Bryan’s interview with Nick Gillard at Salt Lake Fan Experience (audio is courtesy of Bombad Radio, so if you’ve already listened to Bombad Radio’s podcast of the audio for that panel, you’re covered).

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

501stCast: Episode 82 has a complete rundown on 501st Legion events and con reports (a great way to catch up on what they’ve been up to and to get an idea of just what the 501st does) plus they have a nice little treat with audio clips of all the special Star Wars actor messages that were done for The Empire Strikes Back.

Assembly of Geeks:Taking Geek Characters to Court” starts out with Scott’s thoughts on Godzilla (pretty lite on spoilers) then cuts over to their special guest Jessica Mederson (Legal Geeks) who they talk with about Marvel, Star Wars, Samuel Jackson, and some fun geek legality ‘what ifs’. Note that Tricia is absent on this episode, but it’s still a good episode and worth checking out. Jessica turned out to be a really fun guest and I look forward to her returning in the future.

Bombad Radio: Episode 149 is yet another outstanding interview, this time with Star Wars author John Jackson Miller. John talks a little about his upcoming Star Wars Rebels novel A New Dawn, how the project got started, coordinating with the story group and later finding out the canon news and the new state of the EU. I thought it was very interesting to hear that he started the book not knowing it was going to end up being the first official canon novel. It’s also interesting to hear that he doesn’t consider this to just be a prequel story for the show but a fully fledged story anyone can jump into and enjoy. Plus he mentions how cool it is to finally write about TIE fighters. The hosts go one to ask John some questions on KOTOR, Knight Errant, Kenobi, the Lost Tribe, and then traverse into a very cool discussion on comics and the comic industry. I highly recommend giving this one a listen and be sure to check out John’s comic book site Comichron.
