Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 124 features an interview with author Richard Lee Byers covering his latest book, The Reaver, which is part of the Forgotten Realms The Sundering series. As with most of Bombad Radio’s interviews, this one is really good. While spoiler free, they still dive into the nature and subject matter of the book, touch on Richard’s career experience in psychology (and how that has helped or not helped his career), and take a look behind the scenes at the creation of The Sundering series.

Episode 122 features an interview with Benton Jew, one of the storyboard artists for The Phantom Menace, and a longtime ILM employee. Benton talks about storyboarding, working with George Lucas and how he differs from other directors, designing Edgar for Men In Black, and creating Jedi Master Oppo Rancis.

Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #12 has a special interview with James Arnold Taylor. While James has been making the rounds on various podcasts, Cory and Dan manage to cover some new topics and angles as they get James to talk about how the events in the The Clone Wars changed Anakin and Obi-Wan’s relationship in the overall story. Fans of Obi-Wan will not want to miss this episode. They also get around to James’ new book, JAT 365 and how that idea came about, before looping back into Star Wars and some intriguing discussion on familiar religious elements and motifs in the films. One of the big announcements at Gen Con 2012 was the announcement of a new six book series that will change the world of the Forgotten Realms. The new series is being called The Sundering and will feature a different author for each book. The authors (in order) will include R. A. Salvatore (The Companions), Paul S. Kemp (The Godborn), Erin M. Evans (The Adversary), Richard Lee Byers (The Reaver), Troy Denning (The Sentinel), and Ed Greenwood (The Herald). Popular characters such as like Drizzt Do’Urden, Elminster, Drasek Riven, and Erevis cale will be appearing in the novels, as well as some new characters like Erevis Cale’s son, Vasen Cale.

For Denning fans this is big news since Troy hasn’t written a Forgotten Realms novel since The Sorcerer back in 2002. I’m really interested to see who the “old favorites” will be in The Sentinel.

As a huge Kemp fan, I’m glad that they revealed some new artwork of the characters which includes Erevis Cale, Drasek Riven, and Vasen Cale (Vasen Cale is crouching with the sword and shield, Erevis Cale is behind him bleeding shadowstuff, and Drasek Riven is second from the far right right). I’ve been looking forward to The Godborn and I can’t wait to see what Paul cooks up.

The Keynote Address also featured a cover gallery showcasing each book. You can watch the 2012 Gen Con Keynote Address below (book news starts around 34:00).
