Star Wars Insider #135 splashes the cover with some iconic characters as it kicks off a look back at 30 years of videogames. From Atari to The Old Republic, there’s quite a  collection of highlights. Beyond gaming, there’s an interview with The Clone Wars line producer Athena Portillo. Tricia Barr (FANgirl Blog) also has the honor of interview author Aaron Allston on his upcoming novel X-Wing: Mercy Kill. Aaron talks about Piggy, the new Yuuzhan Vong member of Wraith Squadron, and how he uses of humor in his books. I really liked the X-Wing art they used to illustrate the interview (which also includes a brief history of the X-Wing series). While the images aren’t new, they still look awesome. Jedi News interviewed author and comic writer John Jackson Miller yesterday. They talk Star Wars, Knight Errant, and comics in general.

Kerra Holt is a real firecracker. Where did you draw inspiration for her character from?

JJM: I think there was a little Joan of Arc in Kerra to begin with. She was drawn to this one particular mission in her life, and nothing else mattered. And that made her a very intense person to be around, particularly in the early stories. As time has gone on, and she’s seen her role change, she’s been growing up — one difficult lesson at a time.

Dark Horse Comics unveiled their new series Tuesday, and we had a first look at the cover. Comic Book Resources chatted with writer Brian Wood getting some details on what readers can expect in Star Wars #1.

“[the] series picks up in the aftermath of A New Hope. The Rebel Alliance has destroyed the Death Star, crippling the war machine that is the Empire, and is now trying to recover from its own losses and formulate the next phase. In many ways the key players are all suffering.

Luke is hurting from the death of his family and Ben, Leia is in mourning for her family and her entire planet, while trying to shoulder the burden of managing the Rebellion alongside Mon Mothma. Han is still kind of a jerk. Luke only has the barest sense of what the Force is, and will attempt to learn what he can on his own.

Leia is not going to be sitting around in a gown attending a lot of meetings — she has her blaster and an X-wing and is out there with Luke and Wedge working on building the Alliance back up after losing so much. I really wanted to put Leia into the mix, holding her own in battle. And then there’s Vader who is taken to task by the Emperor for not stopping that one X-wing that took out the Death Star.”
