Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. I’m putting this one out a day early since I’m heading out to Star Wars Celebration. Enjoy!

Bombad Radio: Episode 193 features Jeremiah and guests Jesse and Amanda as they discuss Neil Blomkamp and his Aliens sequel. They also talk about District 9, Prometheus, Alien 3, Alien vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. They had a good topic for the episode, sadly it didn’t turn out the best. The audio is very weird (which Jeremiah apologizes for) which makes it kind of hard to listen to and enjoy. While I didn’t really agree a whole lot with their thoughts on the movies, I did appreciate their discussions of the comics as I haven’t checked those out.

Coffee With Kenobi: Episode #34 starts with some Rogue One discussion, a dose from the Bearded Trio, and then segues into their main topic with is a very fun conversation with the hosts of Skywalking Through Neverland. Sarah and Richard talk about how they met, how they got started in podcasting, and the extents of their Star Wars fandom. The episode wraps up with some listener feedback, and puts a bow on another great episode.

Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #18 covers Rogue One, their Celebration shirts, shoutouts, and what panels and events they have going on at Celebration. Then they talk with Ashley Eckstein about Ahsoka, Her Universe and Celebration. Amy Ratcliffe comes on to talk a little about Celebration, and they finish things off with a character discussion on bounty hunters and Cad Bane. Another awesome episode with great guests and great discussion. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Del Rey has announced a new two part story coming to Star Wars Insider.

star-wars-art

We’re thrilled to announce that David J. Williams and Mark S. Williams, authors of the short story, “Maze Run” (that appeared in Star Wars Insider Magazine 131) are penning a new two-part series for Star Wars Insider Magazine. Inspired by the accompanying artwork, created for Return of the Jedi depicting a battle that was never seen in the film, “Blade Squadron” chronicles the story of an elite squad of rebel B-wing pilots on a suicide mission during the Battle of Endor. The events of the tale were written as if they were deleted scenes from the original film, and are rife with knuckle-whitening action and compelling new characters, while the inimitable Chris Trevas will be providing all-new art for the tale. Here’s a little taste of what’s to come:

“How was this possible? How had the mightiest space force ever assembled been bested by a bunch of misfits, rejects, and malcontents?”

“Blade Squadron” Part 1 will debut in Star Wars Insider #149, which goes on-sale April 22.

New Release: ‘Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual’

Today the Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual is out. Written by Ryder Windham and illustrated by Chris Trevas and Chris Reiff, this hardcover guide to the Death Star will fill readers in on all the details of the Empire’s greatest superweapon.

Conceived as the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star battle station is equipped with a planet-shattering superlaser. The station is heavily shielded, defended by TIE starfighters and laser cannons, and invested with firepower greater than that of half the Imperial fleet. The Empire’s diabolical leaders have every reason to believe that their technological terror will induce fear across the galaxy. But the Death Star has one flaw.

This Haynes Manual traces the origins of the Death Star, from concept to a top-secret project that begins before the foundation of the Empire, which draws design inspiration from the Trade Federation’s spherical warships. In this manual, the Death Star’s onboard systems and controls are explained in detail, and are illustrated with an astonishing range of computer-generated artwork, floor plans, cutaways, and exploded diagrams, all newly created by artists Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas—the same creative team behind theMillennium Falcon Owner’s Workshop Manual. Text is by their Falcon colleague Ryder Windham, author of more than fifty Star Wars books.

Covering history, development and prototyping, superstructure, energy and propulsion, weapons and defensive systems, hangar bays, security, service and technical sectors, crew facilities, and with information about the Death Star II and its planetary shield generator, this is the most thorough technical guide to the Death Star available.

This Haynes Manual is fully authorized and approved by Lucasfilm.
