Here’s this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode 1 is a long one, almost two hours, but hosts Tricia Barr and Teresa Delgado do a good job of keeping it interesting. In their debut episode, they cover a lot of ground, introductions, an overview of their intended focus for the podcast, their opinions on fandom and women, a great interview with Star Wars: The Clone Wars voice actress Catherine Taber, and so much more. I think my highlight of the episode, aside from the interview with Cat Taber, was Tricia and Teresa’s discussion segment on Boba Fett. Tricia isn’t a big fan of Fett but Teresa is, and it was fun to hear their opinions on one of my favorite Star Wars characters.
Fictional Frontiers: Episode 261 (listed as Episode #1 on Shotglass Digital) includes an interview with Kenobi author John Jackson Miller. Fiction Frontiers’ host, Sohaib, is one of the best interviewers out there, so if you like listening to interviews, you’ll want to check this one out. As always, he does a nice job talking with John, covering his book, and touching on his upcoming projects.
Episode 265 has a nice interview with Empire and Rebellion: Razor’s Edge author Martha Wells. Sohaib covers some of the choices Martha made in the direction of the book, as well as her view on Leia, Han, and the Alderaanian pirates. The interview is spoiler free, so be sure to check it out.

Here’s this week’s Star Wars podcasts in review.
Assembly of Geeks: The Special Editions Episode features lots of fun Star Wars discussions as they talk about the Special Editions and Ewoks. Their special guest this week is Dan Z. from Coffee with Kenobi. They cover a long list of the changes in the Special Editions of the movies with lots of different opinions from the guests. There’s some really good discussion in this episode and it’s all Star Wars.
Coffee with Kenobi: Episode 7 includes a discussion of the role and rights of fandom and whether writers and filmmakers listen to fans. Plus they cover the latest Star Wars news.
RebelForce Radio:Episode 11.8.2013 includes a rundown of news and rumors plus an interview with Charlie Owen, the Star Wars fan who posted the rare Edit Droid footage of Return of the Jedi. The interview with Charlie is pretty entertaining and it’s cool to hear the story behind the Edit Droid laserdisc.

Here’s this week’s Star Wars podcasts in review.
501stCast: Episode 77 catches up on all the news from the 501st Legion and includes an awesome interview with author Ryder Windham who talks about the Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual.
Bombad Radio: Episode 103 features audio from Salt Lake Comic Con 2013 and the Ray Park panel. Ray talks about playing Toad in the X-Men movies, Darth Maul, Snake Eyes and how he got started in Mortal Kombat Annihilation which actually led to his gig as Darth Maul. Really good audio and some nice comments from Ray who even touches on Star Wars Episode VII.
Episode 98 features more audio from Salt Lake Comic Con 2013, this time covering the William Shatner panel. I had initially passed this episode over in order to catch up with other podcasts, but when I finally got the chance to listen to it, I was thoroughly entertained. Shatner puts on a good show and his panel is pretty fun to listen to. Whether you’re a fan of Star Trek or not, it’s worth a listen.
Our Death Star Interview with Ryder Windham
November 5, 2013 at 11:32 am | Posted in Books, Interview, Star Wars, Star Wars Books | Leave a commentTags: death star owner's technical manual, ryder windham
To dive deeper into the release of the Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual, we interviewed author Ryder Windham who shared some of the work and considerations that went into the project.
Did you find yourself not going into the same material that you covered in the Falcon? Instead of going and covering that same material again, maybe doing something different or covering it on a bigger scale?
Ryder Windham: It was definitely on a bigger scale. The thing that was really different about the approach on both books was that with the Falcon book it was written as if here’s a book the Corellian Engineering would have produced this manual. And with the Death Star it’s not as if we could say, “Oh, this is a book published by the Empire about how to own and operate your Death Star.”

New Release: ‘Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual’
November 5, 2013 at 12:03 am | Posted in Books, Star Wars, Star Wars Books | Leave a commentTags: chris reiff, chris trevas, death star owner's technical manual, ryder windham
Today the Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual is out. Written by Ryder Windham and illustrated by Chris Trevas and Chris Reiff, this hardcover guide to the Death Star will fill readers in on all the details of the Empire’s greatest superweapon.
Conceived as the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star battle station is equipped with a planet-shattering superlaser. The station is heavily shielded, defended by TIE starfighters and laser cannons, and invested with firepower greater than that of half the Imperial fleet. The Empire’s diabolical leaders have every reason to believe that their technological terror will induce fear across the galaxy. But the Death Star has one flaw.
This Haynes Manual traces the origins of the Death Star, from concept to a top-secret project that begins before the foundation of the Empire, which draws design inspiration from the Trade Federation’s spherical warships. In this manual, the Death Star’s onboard systems and controls are explained in detail, and are illustrated with an astonishing range of computer-generated artwork, floor plans, cutaways, and exploded diagrams, all newly created by artists Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas—the same creative team behind theMillennium Falcon Owner’s Workshop Manual. Text is by their Falcon colleague Ryder Windham, author of more than fifty Star Wars books.
Covering history, development and prototyping, superstructure, energy and propulsion, weapons and defensive systems, hangar bays, security, service and technical sectors, crew facilities, and with information about the Death Star II and its planetary shield generator, this is the most thorough technical guide to the Death Star available.
This Haynes Manual is fully authorized and approved by Lucasfilm.
