Here’s this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond.

Books

  • Kevin J. Anderson‘s new serial The Dragon Business will be out next Tuesday and is up for pre-order now on Amazon. The eight part serial will get a new episode each week. It’s only $1.99 for all eight.
  • Kevin also has a cover reveal for his upcoming novel The Dark Between the Stars. The cover is by Stephen Youll who did the cover art for several of the Star Wars anthologies books and The Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy.
  • Daniel Wallace has a sneak peek at his upcoming book The Iron Man Manual which will be out Tuesday.

Conventions

  • Collectormania 20 runs from November 15 to 17 in Milton Keynes, England and will include Star Wars guests Jeremy Bulloch (15 & 17 only), Billy Dee Williams, April Perkins, Brian Wheeler, Willie Coppen and Andy Herd.
  • Invasion Earth 2 is this Sunday only in Manchester, England and will include Star Wars guests Anthony Forest, Ken Coombs, Pam Rose, Alan Flyng, Peter Roy, and Chris Muncke.
  • Supanova Pop Culture Expo runs from November 15 to 17 in Adelaide, Australia and will feature Star Wars guests such as comic writer Tom Taylor, comic artist Colin Wilson, artist Ashley Wood and author Sean Williams.

Fandom

  • StarWars.com has a nice write-up on Christopher Lee and Alec Guinness‘ service in the military as part of Veteran’s Day/Remembrance Day/Armistice Day.
  • For fan of noir films, comic writer and artist Gabriel Hardman is doing a series of noir film reviews for the entire month of November. You can check them out here.
  • Fangirls Going Rogue has launched their first podcast and it features guest Catherine Taber from The Clone Wars.
  • And yesterday this photo made the rounds on the internet…

…my favorite part: the commentary by Star Wars artist Chris Trevas.

Chris Trevas: Hopefully, JJ’s team builds a better R2 than this…

Chris Trevas: Pretty sure that’s a visiting fan made droid. There are some “tells”

Joe Corroney:Elaborate on the tells please :)

Chris Trevas: The eye being too high was the first thing I noticed. Dome shape seems off. Panel spacing is hard to tell in this shot, but it looks like fan made “skins”. The blue paint is too opaque for my tastes. I certainly don’t know R2 as well as others though ;)

Joe Corroney:Interesting! I bet that is a fan made droid for a publicity shot then. I agree those panels are really opaque.

Joe Corroney: You’re right about the eye!

Chris Trevas:Confirmed fan made droid. The builder posted about it on the RPF. That’s him in the pic behind R2

With an eye for detail like that, I think the next Haynes manual should be for astromechs.

Interviews

Videos

  • Joe Johnston has been posting a lot of cool time lapse videos of him drawing Star Wars vehicles and ships. Here’s just a few. You can check out more here.
  • And for Doctor Who fans, there’s “The Night of the Doctor” mini episode.
