Poe Dameron Annual #2 doesn’t really have anything to do with the current plot in the Poe Dameron series, but it does give Black Squadron a mission. As a bonus, we also get Han and Chewie. It’s kind of an odd switch up given that the current series is post-The Last Jedi and this story is pre-The Force Awakens. While it isn’t a great story, or one that’s very pertinent to anything else that is going on, it isn’t too bad.

Basically, the Resistance gets word that a pirate is trying to sell a valuable data archive to the First Order. Leia wants Black Squadron to pose as smugglers and steal the data archive so they can in turn sell it for credits. There’s also a possibility of it containing info for a super weapon, thus they would be denying that from the First Order. So Black Squadron jumps in some old ships and takes care of business. The flip side is that there is no First Order. It’s actually Han and Chewie posing as the First Order so they can steal it for themselves for money. Just as Han is about to take the prize, he figures out the Resistance is there and after the same thing. He decides to let them have it. The issue ends revealing what’s in the box.

All in all, the story isn’t too bad. It’s nice seeing Han and Chewie again, and the reveal of the box is interesting too. However, I don’t think there’s any real importance to the story, and it isn’t relevant to the Poe Dameron main series, so it’s very much a throw away story. The artwork is very cartoonish, and not really a style I liked very much. So in the end, Poe Dameron Annual #2 isn’t a comic I’d recommend anyone rush out and buy. I give it a two and a half out of five metal bikinis.
