Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Blast Points: Episode 129 Jason and Gabe talk about their trip to Ace Comic Con and play the audio from their two panels. First up, Weird Star Wars which includes the Richard Pryor special, The Holiday Special, Turkish Star Wars, Japanese George Lucas commercials, The George Lucas Super Live Adventure, and more. The second panel has the audience doing trivia from the Rusty Miller quiz book, with a commtech chip bonus round. Not too bad of an episode to listen to, but I bet it would have been really fun to be there.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Awards Chatter: Emilia Clarke – ‘Game of Thrones’ kicks off with Scott talking with The Hollywood Reporter executive editor Stephen Galloway about publicists. The interview with Emilia Clarke kicks in at 18 minutes. Emilia talks a little about her parents and childhood, then goes over how she got into acting, getting into theater, and making ends meet until she got the offer for Game of Thrones. She talks about the first audition for the show, getting the part, reading the books, the wig and dyeing her hair, having to do the nudity, working on the show, and she touches on some of her other projects, including Solo (which, worth noting, she signed up for three movies just like Alden). Great interview. Emilia sounding like a very down to earth person. Definitely worth a listen. Most of the interview does focus on Game of Thrones, though, so don’t expect much Star Wars.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 120 is the usual fun as they talk Solo, Motley Crue, the new Solo TV spots, and the Empire photos. Then they talk The Force Awakens as they travel back in time to recall the hype, the trailers, the leaked concept art, things that were leaked or revealed that weren’t in the movie, and wild rumors. It’s a fun trip down memory lane.

Podcast Network: N/A, Runtime: 54 minutes, Audio Quality: Excellent, Editing: Excellent, Hosts: Jason, and Gabe, Rating: Fun

Coffee With Kenobi: Episode 119 Dan talks with Mark Von Ohlen and Lacey Gilleran about Topps cards, Solo, Denny’s cards, working with actors for autographs, Mark shares a shirtless Adam Driver story, and then they go over comic news, magazine news, and game news. Afterwrds, Dan previews two new podcasts he’ll be on. One is a clip of him, Tom and Cory talking about Solo which is from their new weekly Patreon show, and the other one features Dan and Jim Hill in a podcast called Looking At Lucafilm. The audio quality for Mark and Lacey isn’t the best as Mark has some background noise and Lacey is calling over a phone from the sound of it. Not too bad though.

Podcast Network: Coffee With Kenobi, Runtime: 1 hour 23 minutes, Audio Quality: Good, Editing: Excellent, Host: Dan Z, Rating: Good

Comic Book Noob: The Black Order is hosted by just Regina and Scott, but they do a great job of going over Thanos’ minions, The Black Order. They talk about Corvis Glave, Proxima Midnight, Kull Obsidian/Black Dwarf, Ebony Maw and Super Giant. They go over the powers, personalities and stories for each. Lots of great info. Excellent primer for Infinity War, and, given the timing, I’m making this one my Pick of the Week.

Podcast Network: Assembly of GeeksRuntime: 27 minutes, Audio Quality: Excellent, Editing: Excellent, Hosts: Scott, and Regina, Rating: Pick of the Week Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 99 starts with the Rian Johnson trilogy news, the live action TV show news, and they discuss what could be next for animated shows. Their main topic is the old Star Wars fan film Hardware Wars which was one of the most profitable films ever made at that time. They talk about how it came about, who was in it, how it was released, how it ties into Poggle the Lesser, and they watch it and provide a commentary.

Podcast Network: N/A, Runtime: 56 minutes, Rating: Fun

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 100 celebrates their 100th episode by watching all six Star Wars movies at once via the overlay video which, if you haven’t checked it out, is pretty bizarre and awesome. They sort of do a commentary for it, while also tackling listener emails and voice mails. At over 2 hours, it’s a lot of fun in one episode.

Podcast Network: N/A, Runtime: 2 hours 26 minutes, Rating: Fun

Bombad Radio: Episode 290 features an interview with author and game writer Jeff Grubb. Jeremiah talks with Jeff about the differences in writing for different worlds and franchises, short stories vs novels vs comics, working with artists, his Forgotten Realms comics, writing for video games and the team effort, Guild Wars, PVP, PVE, text and socializing, the various aspects of gaming, the different types of writers in games now, planing out voices, amount of material you’re given to work with, and roleplaying books. Nice interview and a very interesting conversation that includes a lot of game designing stories.

Blast Points: Episode 26 covers some news, E3, the Palpatine tv script, LEGO’s The Force Awakens game, the Lucas museum, and then they head into their Qui-Gon-a-thon as they talk all things Qui-Gon. They cover his Jedi philosophy, his relationship with the Jedi council, his ability to live on in the Force, and how Luke is more like him than any other Jedi. Great entertaining show as always.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

The 602 Club: Episode S12 covers the ebook novella The Perfect Weapon by Delilah S. Dawson. This one does delve into fun spoilers, but it’s an excellent discussion for those who have already read the story. They dive into the characters, the story elements, a possible Kylo Ren connection, what’s in the box, and an interesting parallel between Bazine and the Jedi.

Brews and Blasters: Episode #46 features a fansite group interview with Star Wars Rebels voice actress Vanessa Marshall. It’s a fun interview and worth a listen.

Coffee With Kenobi: Walt Disney World Meet Up episode takes place at Disney World as Dan, Aaron and Sandra talk about Star Wars with fellow fans, announce that Aaron will be taking over Rebels Reactions, and they do the five questions. It’s fun with fans and a nice listen. Afterwards they also have an interview with voice actress Ashley Eckstein which is a great way to cap off the episode. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. Lot of great interviews this week.

BNN: Episode 9.14.2015 is something a little different from the folks of Bombad Radio as they try a shorter, news focused podcast that’s actually pretty useful. They bring the news with a touch of humor, touching on not just Star Wars, but other topics like Batman v. Superman, Jurassic World, upcoming movies, home releases, video games, comics, webshows, etc. If you’re wondering what’s coming out now, or what news came out this week, then this is a great way to catch up. Best of all, they pack it all in under 30 minutes. I really like the short format and I think it works great for news. It’s very convenient for sliding the episodes in between your normal podcasts on your playlist, thus allowing you to get the news and not fall behind, but also not get stuck with a one to two hour show. The one drawback I noticed in this episode, however, is that the rundown on new comic releases was really long, big info dump, and that’s kind of hard to get away from as a lot of comics come out every week. They might need to work on that a little (either just highlighting the popular titles or some choice picks), otherwise it’s pretty solid. Keep in mind this is their inaugural episode for BNN.

Collectors Cast: Episode 11 is their Force Friday episode with them giving their thoughts on the new collectibles, LEGO, the packaging, the new Falcon, Black Series, Disney Elite Series, talking figures and masks, BB-8 and some live reporting from the UK. They talk at length with fellow collectors Duncan Jenkins and with Steve Sansweet which rounds out the episode.

Comics With Kenobi: Episode #6 covers Shattered Empire #1, which they loved, and Darth Vader #9, which they didn’t love. Lots of spoilers, so if you haven’t read the issues, be sure to read them first before listening. They have some great discussion covering the artwork as much as the writing. Personally I was of an opposite opinion of the hosts, as I rather liked Darth Vader #9 and thought Shattered Empire #1 fell kind of flat. If you’re into the comics, give these guys a listen. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Glenn Panel features audio from the Glenn Moreshower panel from Salt Lake Comic Con. While you probably won’t recognize his name, you would recognize his face and voice as he’s been in a lot of movies in small roles. He talks about show business and Hollywood and is actually really funny. He tells some good stories and has a hilarious tip for people to get over their nervousness. I recommend checking this one out, it’s a lot of fun.

Coffee With Kenobi: Episode #36 is hosted by Dan and Jeff as they talk Star Wars news. Corey joins them for an experimental review of A New Hope done as if it’s the first time they saw it back in the day which is kind of corny but also funny. Then they have audio of a radio segment they did, an interview with Lou Mongello who talks Star Wars and Disney World (good guest), and they wrap things up with a collection of hilarious outtakes and then some listener feedback. Great episode. I also want to give a shout out to Jeff for filling in for Corey. He does a superb job. Fans of the show won’t be disappointed.

Celebration Anaheim Recap features their coverage of days three and four of Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. It’s recorded on their way home from the airport, so the audio is a little raw, but it’s still worth a listen as they have some good stories on what they did, who they met, and what happened.
