Star Trek: Raise the Dawn is the penultimate novel in the Typhon Pact series. It was written by David R. George III and was released in July of 2012.

While the Typhon Pact series has had everything from fantastic entries to utterly dull ones, this book lands itself somewhere in the middle. There are things that I thought were excellently done in this book, while there were other elements that bored me throughout.

I’ll begin with what works in the book. When writing a political story, David R. George does a really good job. The Typhon Pact vs. The Federation storyline here was fascinating and I was hooked on every chapter. In some ways, this book paid off several books of development, particularly the last few by David R. George. While I’ve seen many reviewers discuss how this novel is part of a duology with Plagues of Night, I would argue that it’s more of an end to a trilogy, including Rough Beasts of Empire.

Star Trek: Plagues of Night is the fifth novel in the Typhon Pact series. It was written by David R. George III and was published by Simon and Schuster’s Pocket Books in June of 2012.

The Typhon Pact has been really hit or miss thus far. Some books have been great, while other books have been mediocre or downright bad. David R George has been the primary DS9 writer for Pocket Books before and during the Typhon Pact, and here he proves why he earned that mantel.

Star Trek: Paths of Disharmony is the fourth book in the Typhon Pact line of novels from Pocket Books at Simon and Schuster. It was written by Dayton Ward and was released in February 2011.

The Typhon pact has had some hits and misses. Zero Sum Game was a mediocre novel, while Seize the Fire was very disappointing and Rough Beasts of Empire was partially amazing and partially poorly executed. I have also read some mixed books by Dayton Ward, so I wasn’t particularly excited about this one. However, one of my friends rated this very high on his list, and he and I have had similar thoughts on the Typhon pack novels thus far. So I was intrigued to see what this book was like.

And I’m so glad I did, because not only is it the best Typhon Pact novel, it’s also one of Dayton Ward’s best novels.

Star Trek: Rough Beasts of Empire Is the third book in the Typhon Pact series. It was written by David R. George III and was released in January 2011.

I was incredibly nervous going into this book. I have read that this was an incredibly controversial book. You need look no further than the Goodreads ratings or the discussions by prominent Trek literary reviewers to know this book ruffled some feathers. I was especially nervous since I just read the first two book in the Typhon Pact series Zero Sum Game and Seize the Fire, both of which I thought were disappointingly mediocre.

Star Trek: Seize the Fire is the second novel in the Typhon Pact series. It was written by Michael A. Martin and was released in December of 2010.

After reading this novel, I can kind of see where they are taking this Typhon pact series. It appears that every book will essentially be another book in that ship’s particular line of novels (TNG, Titan, Aventine, DS9, etc), but there is a throughline current here about the threat about the Typhon Pact, although you’d almost be forgiven if you didn’t realize it in this book.

Star Trek: Zero Sum Game is the first novel in the Typhon Pact line of novels. It was written by David Mack and was released in November of 2010.

David Mack has turned in several amazing books. His Destiny Trilogy is truly legendary for the scope and sheer audacity. His The Fall novel Ceremony of Losses was one of the best thematic books in Star Trek. His A Time to books and his Legacies book were both really stellar! Unfortunately, this book does not live up to the others.
