Today we wish a happy birthday to author Paul S. Kemp. Paul is making today extra special by throwing an online book party for his characters Egil and Nix. To participate, Paul is asking readers who have not read his two Egil and Nix books, The Hammer and the Blade and A Discourse in Steel, to go check them out.
For those who have already read them, Paul wants your reviews on Amazon or Barnes & Noble (you can check out our review of The Hammer and the Blade and A Discourse in Steel right here on Roqoo Depot). And for those die hard fans who have already bought and reviewed both books, be sure to share the word.

Roleplayers Chronicle Interview with Paul S. Kemp
August 14, 2012 at 7:17 am | Posted in Books, Fantasy, Interview | Leave a commentTags: paul s. kemp, tales of egil and nix, the hammer and the blade
Roleplayers Chronicle posted an interview Sunday with author Paul S. Kemp. Unlike some of the recent Kemp interviews, this one delves into roleplaying and Paul’s Dungeons & Dragons days.
What would be your dream gaming group and who would play what classes?
PSK: Oh, hell, how about Felicia Day as an elven sorcerer, Nathan Fillion as a rogue, and Neil Gaiman as a cleric of the god of the dead. I’d play a paladin and Ed Greenwood would DM. That’d work.
And it also touches on The Hammer and the Blade. Continue Reading Roleplayers Chronicle Interview with Paul S. Kemp…
Geek Life Interviews Paul S. Kemp
August 13, 2012 at 12:00 am | Posted in Books, Fantasy, Interview | Leave a commentTags: angry robot books, paul s. kemp, tales of egil and nix, the hammer and the blade
Geek Life posted an interview with author Paul S. Kemp on Friday. The interview asks twenty questions that vary from “If you were a beer, what brand would you be and why?” to ‘Paul, other than roleplaying, what is the geekiest thing about you?” Of course they also cover Paul’s latest novel The Hammer and the Blade.
Did you establish magical cannon in the novel, or did you just MSU (Make Stuff Up) as you went along?
PSK: I did establish some canon, but I want (and did) keep it very loose. Magic systems are fine and work well in lots of books. But I personally love the idea of magic as this kind of nearly inscrutable force/tool utilized by practitioners in many different ways. Think of Howard’s Conan stories, or the Thieves’ World anthologies: In those, magic and sorcerers come in all kinds of shapes and flavors. I really like that as an approach. Gives the world a real sense of wonder.
There’s a pretty good spectrum of questions, so it’s worth checking out. Click here to read the full interview.
