Lightsaber Rattling posted an interview with Chris Trevas, one of the artists for Star Wars: The Essential Reader’s Companion. The interview covers everything from Chris’ illustration methods to his favorite pieces.
It looks like the folks at Del Rey kept you busy on The Essential Reader’s Companion, by my count you have 23 illustrations in the book. Out of those, is there one piece that stands out as your favorite?
CT: It’s tough to pick just one. They were all pretty fun for different reasons. The piece showing Lando escorting Luke, Han and Chewie onto the skiff at Jabba’s was fun since it’s a scene taking place within the classic movie timeline, but not shown on screen. Those are my favorite pieces to do. I also like to illustrate the Millennium Falcon’s history so I enjoyed painting young Han from the Han Solo Adventures.

Suvudu Interview with Pablo Hidalgo

Suvudu has posted an interview with Star Wars: The Essential Reader’s Companion author Pablo Hidalgo. The interview covers a lot of ground and includes some of the artwork.
Had you read all of these books and short stories already or was any of this material completely new to you?
PH: Definitely, just because I had been busy. There was even a lot of material that had come out since I started working here that I’d just never had a chance to read or really dive into. In some cases I was just reading summaries at the time and this was an opportunity to read them more fully. There was a degree of catch-up and this gave me the excuse to read those. For whatever reason, I’d never read the Last of the Jedi series when they came out, and now I had the chance. I really enjoyed them. I think Jude Watson did an amazing job. When you look at how many books she’s written and the particular era of the EU she had carved out, it was fun to get that closure and finish her particular story.

FANgirl Interviews Pablo Hidalgo

FANgirl Blog posted a nice interview with Star Wars: The Essential Reader’s Companion author Pablo Hidalgo that includes a couple of the art pieces and some cool insight into the book.
You sprinkled many interesting out-of-universe nuggets throughout the entries. Was most of this information you already knew from your time at Lucasfilm? Or did you reach out to the authors and editors for their insight and archived files?
PH: A lot of the insights came from the Lucas Books editors, because they had a much bigger view of the publishing program as a whole. I looked at a lot of correspondence and notes from story conferences – in some cases, these have been printed out and have been kept in binders here at Lucasfilm. These offered a lot of interesting insights from the writers as they were writing. Leland Chee has kept extensive records of story development as part of his role as Keeper of the Holocron. And yes, I had a fair amount of firsthand experience based on my time here since 2000.
