Comic writer Tom Taylor has a new graphic novel coming out that is a sequel to his award winning The Deep. Here’s a preliminary synopsis for The Vanishing Island.

When an island is ‘completely not hit by a tsunami’, a new investigation begins for the daring aquanauts, the Nekton family. Danger, secrets, peril, ancient messages, shocking revelations, and the first word to rhyme with ‘orange’. The Nektons are back, along with Jeffrey the Fish, in an adventure every bit as mysterious as the deep blue sea.

Interview with Tom Taylor and Book Contest

Rowena Cory Daniells has an interview with another Star Wars writer, this time the incredibly talented comic writer Tom Taylor. There is also the opportunity to win a free copy of Tom’s graphic novel The Deep. The interview covers a range of topics from Tom’s good old days in school to Star Wars canon, comedy, and his other projects.

Q: Rombies (written by Tom Taylor, illustrated by Skye Ogden, Colours by Mikiko Ponczeck) is a historical paranormal tale set in ancient Rome. What inspired you to set a story in ancient Rome? Have you always been fascinated by its history?

Skye Ogden inspired me. Honestly, this was originally his idea. I just ran with it, and I’m very glad I did. Gestalt actually asked me to write this very early on in our working relationship and I said no. I’m not a massive horror fan and I wasn’t sure this was the project for me. The night after I said no, I had a dream about Gladiators fighting zombie lions beneath the Coliseum. I called them the very next morning to say yes. I wanted to see Zombie Lions come to un-life. We made that happen. Where we plan to go next is epic.

I highly recommend checking this interview out. It includes some pretty fun humor, and the part that covered The Example was enough to convince me to go out and buy it. Click here to read the full interview and for a chance to win The Deep.

Comic Book Resources got an exclusive look at Tom Taylor’s comic The Deep with a 10 page preview and a very nice interview. You might know Tom from his work with Star Wars as the comic writer for the Invasion series, Blood Ties, Luke Skywalker and the Treasure of the Dragonsnakes, or The Will of Darth Vader. In the interview Tom reveals that he created The Deep with the intention of providing a comic book that his son could enjoy, as well as himself. This motivation also spurred him to work on the Star Wars Adventures graphic novellas.

The Deep focuses on a family of explorers who venture into the mysterious depths of the ocean, that last unexplored frontier. The preview presents some wonderful, richly colored artwork and that has a Pixar The Incredibles feel to it. The story itself has an interesting hook with a promise of sea dragons. If you’d like to find out more about The Deep, or if you’d like to buy a copy, then check out
