Ewok of the Day: Logray

Here at Roqoo Depot, we are counting down the days to the release of Ewoks: Shadows of Endor. Written and drawn by Zack Giallongo with colors by Braden Lamb, this trade paperback comic leads directly in the events of Return of the Jedi and ties into the Ewoks television movies and series. To help get readers in the mood, we’ll be doing an Ewok of the day each day until the comic’s release. Today we’re highlighting Logray.

Master Logray is the head shaman of Bright Tree Village. As far as Ewoks go, he has quite an adventurous life. Early in his life, he was enslaved by Tulgah witch named Morag who he learned Force magic from before escaping. His use of the Force enabled him to become a powerful member of his tribe, and someone Chief Chirpa depended on. However, like the Jedi, he experienced issues with training apprentices. His first apprentice, Zarrak, delved into dark magic and had to be banished from the village. Thankfully Teebo turned out to be a much better apprentice, and learned much from Master Logray. After the Battle of Yavin, he actually traveled to Naboo to visit the city of Theed along with Chief Chirpa.

Sadly, Master Logray fell to the dark side as he began using dark rituals. It was his decision to sacrifice Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca and R2-D2. He was eventually ousted by Chief Chirpa and replaced by Paploo. In retaliation, Logray placed a curse on the village and went into exile. His name was sticken from the Songs of Remembrance and it became taboo to even speak it.

Master Logray appeared in Return of the Jedi and the television movie Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure. he also appeared in the Ewoks comics, Return of the Jedi 3: Mission to Endor, the Ewoks television show, and several children’s books: How the Ewoks Saved the Trees: An Old Ewok Legend, Wicket Finds a Way: An Ewok Adventure, The Adventures of Teebo: A Tale of Magic and Suspense, Fuzzy as an Ewok and The Ewoks Join the Fight.

Ewoks: Shadows of Endor will be out on October 9, 2013.

Ewoks of the Day: Warok and Teek

Here at Roqoo Depot, we are counting down the days to the release of Ewoks: Shadows of Endor. Written and drawn by Zack Giallongo with colors by Braden Lamb, this trade paperback comic leads directly in the events of Return of the Jedi and ties into the Ewoks television movies and series. To help get readers in the mood, we’ll be doing an Ewok of the day each day until the comic’s release. Today we’re highlighting Warok and Teek.

Warok is a skilled Ewok warrior and one of the best with a hang glider. Like Lumat, he is a family man. His wife is Batcheela, and they have two children: Teebo and Malani. Before fighting in the Battle of Endor, Warok once took on a group of Duloks to save some capture Ewok children.

He appeared in Return of the Jedi and the children’s book The Adventures of Teebo: A Tale of Magic and Suspense which was written and illustrated by Joe Johnston, one of the principal designers for the Star Wars films and of the Ewoks themselves.  Warok also had a vintage Kenner action figure complete with collectors coin.

Teek technically isn’t an Ewok but a Teek. He was a companion to a stranded spacer on the Forest Moon of Endor, before rescuing a girl named Cindel Towani from a Sanyassan warlord. Afterwards he became a member of Bright Tree Village.

Unlike the Ewoks, Teek is extremely fast and has a rapid metabolism. His species isn’t native to Endor, but a colony of Teeks wound up on the planet around 800 years ago. They are typically known as thieves and scavengers.

Teek first appeared in the television movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1986). Later on, he showed up in the children’s book The Ring, the Witch, and the Crystal: An Ewok Adventure (1986), and in Star Tours.

Ewoks of the Day: Lumat and Latara

Here at Roqoo Depot, we are counting down the days to the release of Ewoks: Shadows of Endor. Written and drawn by Zack Giallongo with colors by Braden Lamb, this trade paperback comic leads directly in the events of Return of the Jedi and ties into the Ewoks television movies and series. To help get readers in the mood, we’ll be doing an Ewok of the day each day until the comic’s release. Today we’re highlighting Lumat and Latara.

Lumat is a family man. Along with his wife Zephee, they have three children: Latara, Nippet and Wiley. As a part of Bright Tree Village, Lumat is the chief woodcutter. Along with many other Ewoks, he fought against the Empire in the Battle of Endor.

He appeared in Return of the Jedi, one episode of the Ewoks television series, and several children’s books: How the Ewoks Saved the Trees: An Old Ewok Legend, Wicket Finds a Way: An Ewok Adventure, and The Shadow Stone: An Ewok Adventure. Collectors might also recognize him from his action figure, be it the old vintage Kenner figure or the newer one by Hasbro, though neither version had black stripes.

Latara is Lumat’s daughter and sister to Wiley and Nippet (the baby wokling seen in Return of the Jedi). Being best friends with Princess Kneesaa and Wicket, the trio have gone on many adventures together. In her free time, she likes to play the flute, and has been known to have a big crush on Teebo.

Her first appearance was in Wicket Finds a Way: An Ewok Adventure (1984). She also appeared in the second issue of the Ewoks comics, and was a recurring character in the Ewoks television show (she was voiced by Taborah Johnson in season one, and Sue Murphy in season two).

Ewok of the Day: Princess Kneesaa

To help get readers in the mood, we’ll be doing an Ewok of the day each day until the comic’s release. Today we’re highlighting Princess Kneesaa.

Princess Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka is the daughter of Chief Chirpa and Ra-Lee. Her younger sister is Asha. Ra-Lee was killed by a hanadak while Kneesaa was very young. At the time of the attack, Asha disappeared into the woods and was thought to be dead. In reality, she was found by a pack of korrinas and raised by them. Out in the wild, she preyed upon Dulok fur traders and was known as the Red Ghost. Eventually Kneesaa found her sister and was able to bring her back to Bright Tree Village. Later in life, Princess Kneesaa become Chieftainess of Bright Tree Village and married Wicket.

Princess Kneesaa appeared in issue #4 of the Droids comic series and in a dozen issues of the Ewoks comics, in the children’s books: How the Ewoks Saved the Trees: An Old Ewok Legend, The Baby Ewoks’ Picnic Surprise, Three Cheers for Kneesaa!: An Ewok Adventure, The Ewoks’ Hang-Gliding Adventure, Fuzzy as an Ewok, and in the short stories “Chief Chirpa Kidnapped!”, “The Ice Princess!” and “Return of the Great One!” which all appeared in the 1988 Marvel Ewoks Annual. She was also a regular on the Ewoks television show.

Ewok of the Day: Paploo

Here at Roqoo Depot, we are counting down the days to the release of Ewoks: Shadows of Endor. Written and drawn by Zack Giallongo with colors by Braden Lamb, this trade paperback comic leads directly in the events of Return of the Jedi and ties into the Ewoks television movies and series. To help get readers in the mood, we’ll be doing an Ewok of the day each day until the comic’s release. Today we’re highlighting Paploo.

Paploo is the nephew of Chief Chirpa and the son of Bozzie, Chief Chirpa’s sister. He often hanged out with Wicket, Teebo, Latara and Kneesaa. During the battle of Endor, he stole a scout trooper speeder bike which created a diversion allowing the Rebels to capture the shield generator. Later on, he actually came to replace Master Logray in Bright Tree Village.

Kenny Baker played Paploo in Return of the Jedi. Originally the roles of Paploo and Wicket were reversed, but on the day for shooting the scene between Leia and her first encounter with an Ewok, Warwick Davis was used instead and the names were later swapped. Paploo went on to appear in the Ewoks television show, the Ewoks comics, in Star Wars Tales 22: “Marooned” and in the children’s books: How the Ewoks Saved the Trees: An Old Ewok Legend and The Ewoks Join the Fight.

Ewok of the Day: Chukha-Trok

Here at Roqoo Depot, we are counting down the days to the release of Ewoks: Shadows of Endor. Written and drawn by Zack Giallongo with colors by Braden Lamb, this trade paperback comic leads directly in the events of Return of the Jedi and ties into the Ewoks television movies and series. To help get readers in the mood, we’ll be doing an Ewok of the day each day until the comic’s release. Today we’re highlighting Chukha-Trok.

Chukha-Trok is a notable Ewok known for his strength, wisdom, and for being a woodcutter. He accompanied Logray and his caravan in their attempt to rescue a pair of humans named Jeremitt and Catarine from one of the monstrous Gorax. Sadly, Chukha-Trok died during the confrontation with the Gorax.

His first appearance was in the television movie Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure (1984). He also appeared in a couple episodes of the Ewoks television show and in the short story “Return of the Great One!” which was part of the 1988 Marvel Ewoks Annual.

Ewoks: Shadows of Endor will be out on October 9, 2013.
