Here’s this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars news and more.

Books

  • Kicking things off, author John Jackson Miller revealed on Twitter that Kenobi is set to debut at #12 on the New York Times Best Sellers hardcover list.
  • Meanwhile William Shakespeare’s Star Wars is hanging in there for it’s seventh week, now at #18 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
  • Star Wars Books, Del Rey’s Star Wars Facebook outlet, posted some proposed artwork for Timothy Zahn’s Scoundrels. The artwork shows two different versions of Eanjer Kunarazti. Fair warning, if you haven’t read Scoundrels yet, you’ll want to stay away from this post as it goes into spoiler territory.
  • On the Empire and Rebellion front, Honor Among Thieves is finished. Continue Reading Around the Web…

If you’re near Roanoke, VA this weekend, be sure to stop by SheVaCon. Star Wars author Aaron Allston will be there and to maximize your Allston experience, Aaron has posted his full schedule here.

With all the rumors going about on who will be starring in the Star Wars spinoff films, author Timothy Zahn weighed in with Hollywood.com. He also talked a little about Scoundrels. You can find the full interview here.

Also in interview news, Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, the creators behind the upcoming Legacy comics, spoke with Geek of Oz on Legacy: Prisoner of the Floating World. They give some hints on what readers can expect from the new ongoing series as well as talking about Ania Solo and her mysterious heritage. It’s definitely worth checking out.

In other news, Tom Taylor killed Lois Lane while a helpless Superman looked on. If you haven’t been following Injustice: Gods Among Us, you can catch up here. IGN interviewed Tom to get his opinions on killing Lois Lane, torturing Superman, and blowing up Metropolis. Hmm, maybe Tom’s threat to build superweapons wasn’t just a jest after all.

The Who song “Pinball Wizard” may take on a new meaning now that Star Wars is getting a pinball game. Just announced this week, Star Wars Pinball will be launching this month as downloadable content for several platforms. The game will kick off with pinball tables modeled after Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. There are also seven more themes in production and will all be announced this year.

Timothy Zahn Live Chat Recap

Here’s a recap of Star Wars Books live chat with Timothy Zahn. Due to the large turnout, we’ve included just Tim’s answers.

  • That was basically how I would have rewritten the Greedo scene to let Greedo shoot first, even while Han was in control of the situation.
  • I’ve always thought that Breha had a fair amount to do with Leia’s (and Winter’s) upbringing, though that may not be canon anymore. Regardless, I assume that the girls would at least have some fond memories of her, which would of course hit Winter particularly hard.
  • The cast list in Scoundrels was designed to be a book that Star Wars fans who weren’t EU readers could pick up without being lost. Winter and Kell are there because I did want to give some links to the EU folks, but since these are (chronologically) their first appearances, the newcomers wouldn’t be lost. Yes, I’d love to see some of my stuff adapted to movies or TV; no, I have no idea how the Disney/LFL thing will work out, but I’m expecting good things. Starting off with Zahn news, both Club Jade and EUCantina posted interviews with Scoundrels author Timothy Zahn this week. You can check out Club Jade’s video interview here, as well as their video of the San Diego Scoundrels signing which included discussion and a Q&A. You can check EUCantina’s interview here.

This week there was some pretty big podcast news. The ForceCast announced Saturday that it would be coming to an end. In its place, separate from TheForce.Net and Rebelscum.com, will be Rebel Force Radio. The new podcast will still be hosted by Jason Swank and Jimmy Mac and will be located here. For now you can check them out on Facebook and Twitter. The new podcast will kick off this Saturday and will feature none other than The Clone Wars‘ Dave Filoni.

The other big podcast announcement was Full of Sith, which is hosted by Tha Mike Pilot, Bryan Young, and Consetta Parker. They’ve already got two podcast episodes out, and one of them is with Rancho Obi-Wan’s own Steve Sansweet. You can check Full of Sith at their official website.

CNET announced a new Star Wars book Wednesday called How Star Wars Conquered the Universe. It will be written by Chris Taylor and was described as “an in-depth look at the culture and economics of the Star Wars ecosystem, from its earliest days to its future as part of Disney.” The release date is tentatively set for 2014. CNET has an interview with Chris that you can read here.

In other news, author Paul S. Kemp challenged Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder to a duel on Twitter. So far the silken voiced pretty boy has not responded.

Lastly, Tom Taylor revealed his deepest, darkest secrets to EGM Now. Tom laid on some humor, so it’s worth a read. It covers the new Injustice: Gods Among Us comic series he’s working on for DC Comics.

Scoundrels comes out tomorrow. To help get everyone ready, we have an interview with Timothy Zahn covering everything from Aurebesh to lightsaber bread knives, but without any major spoilers. Enjoy!

First of all, congratulations on Scoundrels. What a fun and satisfying adventure this was to read. Was it fun to write?

Timothy Zahn: It was an immense kick. With a complex heist story like this you need to know pretty much every detail before you start, and as a result the actual writing just flew by. Actually, the whole process went pretty quickly – from our first conversations about the book to the finished first draft was less than eight months, with the writing time only three months.
