Happy Birthday, Peter Mayhew
May 19, 2011 at 9:16 am | Posted in Birthday, Movies, Star Wars News | Leave a commentTags: chewbacca, Peter Mayhew
Today we wish Star Wars actor Peter Mayhew a very happy birthday. Mr. Mayhew portrayed the loveable, humorous, and iconic Chewbacca in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Born in Barnes, England on May 19, 1944, he eventually grew up and took on a job as a hospital attendant in London where he was noticed by a film producer and cast into his first film role in the movie Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. A year later he was asked to play another role as the mighty Chewbacca in George Lucas’ Star Wars. Interestingly enough, he was actually given the choice between Darth Vader and Chewbacca and chose Chewbacca because he wanted to be a good guy. From there a legacy was born.
Mr. Mayhew is now a naturalized citizen of the United States of America and currently resides in Texas. Along with continuing his film work, as well as making the Star Wars convention ciruit, Mr. Mayhew has written several books lately with deal with the very serious topics. My Favorite Giant deals with childhood bullying and strives to give children the confidence they need to persevere. His other book Growing Up Giant is about himself and how he dealt with gigantism. Both books are illustrated and provide positive messages for younger audiences. You can find out more by visiting Peter Mayhew’s official site.

Peter Mayhew’s New Book: My Favorite Giant
April 25, 2011 at 2:09 pm | Posted in Books | Leave a commentTags: chewbacca, katie johnson, Peter Mayhew, r2-kt
Peter Mayhew, the actor who played Chewbacca, has written a new book entitled My Favorite Giant that deals with the issues of bullying. The book is geared toward children and offers scenarios and advice on how to deal with the subject. Lately bullying has become a fairly serious issue and many children struggle to deal with it on a daily basis. In My Favorite Giant, Peter Mayhew tells a story using himself as a character and his conversation with Katie Johnson. Like Peter Mayhew, Katie Johnson is also a real person. Her father was the founder of the 501st Legion, and Katie’s struggle with brain cancer started the R2-KT project. Though Katie passed away, the R2-KT project carries on, and with My Favorite Giant, she will now be able to inspire and help other kids in need. If you’d like to purchase the book, or would just like to find out more information, feel free to check out the My Favorite Giant website.

WonderCon Highlights-New Clone Wars Preview
April 3, 2011 at 7:47 am | Posted in Entertainment, Miscellaneous, Television, The Clone Wars | 1 CommentTags: Ashley Eckstein, dave filoni, Peter Mayhew
Holy cow was there a Sith in there wielding TWO double edged light sabers? I guess we can expect to see an enemy roughly twice as powerful as Darth Maul in season 4 of The Clone Wars. From the material released so far I can hardly wait!

Jedi or Sith?

He could probably still rip your arms out.
There wasn’t a whole lot of breaking news from WonderCon but it sure looked like a lot of fun. The Star Wars contingent seemed to lean heavily on promoting the Clone Wars franchise. Veteran Star Wars alum Peter Mayhew, famous for his portrayal of the character Chewbacca in the films and who was the model for that character in the animated series, was on hand sporting a stylish Chewie T-shirt.

I suspect it looks better on her than it would on me.
The insanely beautiful and talented Ashley Eckstein, voice of Ashoka Tano and purveyor of officially licensed Star Wars Apparel geared toward girls, was on hand showing off her latest offering. A T-shirt featuring Yoda on what appears to be Degobah. You can see all the wares available from her web site at http://www.heruniverse.com/ or by clicking here.

Does the Twi'Lek look familiar? There is something I like about that girl that I just can't put my finger on.
Also spotted was Dave Filoni, executive producer of the hit cartoon series. Again seen here with Ashley Eckstein and two cosplayers dressed as Aayla Secura and Ashoka Tano.
