Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 019 covers their thoughts on the Attack of the Clones soundtrack. They talk about the music in the film versus the actual soundtrack release, spotting, their favorite moments and more. Good episode.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 020 covers the places in Star Wars they’d like to live, visit and just plain stay away from.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 021 covers the directors who they think would have brought an interesting perspective to Revenge of the Sith had they directed it instead of George. There’s some interesting picks and reasons behind the choices. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

501stCast: Episode 91 kicks off with Legion news, the induction of the new Chewbacca actor from The Force Awakens, troop reports, details on the special White House screening of The Force Awakens, and then the “Know A Legion” segment with Terry Chuii. Note if you already listened to the Know A Legion minicast, then you’ve already heard this segment so you’ll want to skip to the 49 minute mark where they get back to new stuff. Just a quick observation here – if you’re not that interested in Legion news, ie. hearing all the troop reports from the garrisons, then listening to the minicasts is the way to go as they’re way more appealing to general fans. However, if you’re wanting to stay up to date with what the 501st Legion is doing, then the main podcast episodes are the way to go.

Aggressive Negotiations: Episode 002 covers friendships and sexualizing friendships. They talk about the relationship between Poe and Finn, Rey and Finn, Han and Luke, and even Poe and BB-8. It’s an interesting episode.

Blast Points: *New Podcast* Episode 1 – This is a new podcast I’ve started listening to. Currently they’re up to seven episodes and their latest one includes Star Wars artist Joe Corroney, which I’m looking forward to listening to. However, I was really impressed with their first episode. It’s a discussion format show with two hosts, Jason and Gabe. In Episode 1 they tackle the “Where’s Rey” discussion, the desire for Kanjiklub toys, Rogue One rumors, and then their main discussion which focuses on defending The Force Awakens from common complaints. From it being a remake of A New Hope, to Rey’s sudden use of Force powers and the lack of politics, they cover quite a few of the big issues some people have been pointing out. There’s a couple things that really made this discussion stand out. First off, they break down the hero’s journey and how different elements in TFA each represent part of the journey. While I’ve heard other people point out a few things, I have yet to hear anyone take it to this level as they point out a lot of elements and cover far more of the hero’s journey than most people talk about. It’s pretty cool. They even bring up a nice parallel between Han dying and touching Kylo’s face to the scene in Attack of the Clones where Shmi dies and touches Anakin’s face. It’s a very entertaining podcast with some excellent discussion. The audio quality is decent, not great, but decent, and it’s a pro-Prequels podcast so no prequel hating here. Worth checking out. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

The 602 Club: Episode 49 is A New Hope discussion featuring guests Bethany and Riley Blanton from Star Wars Report. It’s a great conversation on some broad topics and themes, but they dive deep into them. If you love Star Wars, this one will appeal to you, so that covers pretty much everyone. Great audio quality, great guests, great episode.

The 602 Club: Episode 47 focuses on Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath, and it does get into spoilers, though I don’t think it’s anything that would ruin the book. They provide their opinions on the book, pick it apart, but also explore all the possibilities and intriguing aspects. It’s a good episode to check out if you’ve read the book.

Bombad Radio: Episode 211 reaches back into the things that make this podcast great – Star Wars author interviews. I’m a sucker for interviews, and I love hearing from the authors of Star Wars. This one is extra special as I’ve never heard anyone interview John Whitman. If you’re not familiar with the name, he wrote the Star Wars series Galaxy of Fear which was basically the equivalent of Goosebumps. They cover that, but also his work on the audio adaptations for Dark Horse’s early Star Wars comics and the Return of the Jedi radio dramatization. He talks about how those projects came about, working with Lucasfilm on getting sound effects, and even his expertise in the martial art of Krav Maga. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. Lot of great interviews this week.

BNN: Episode 9.14.2015 is something a little different from the folks of Bombad Radio as they try a shorter, news focused podcast that’s actually pretty useful. They bring the news with a touch of humor, touching on not just Star Wars, but other topics like Batman v. Superman, Jurassic World, upcoming movies, home releases, video games, comics, webshows, etc. If you’re wondering what’s coming out now, or what news came out this week, then this is a great way to catch up. Best of all, they pack it all in under 30 minutes. I really like the short format and I think it works great for news. It’s very convenient for sliding the episodes in between your normal podcasts on your playlist, thus allowing you to get the news and not fall behind, but also not get stuck with a one to two hour show. The one drawback I noticed in this episode, however, is that the rundown on new comic releases was really long, big info dump, and that’s kind of hard to get away from as a lot of comics come out every week. They might need to work on that a little (either just highlighting the popular titles or some choice picks), otherwise it’s pretty solid. Keep in mind this is their inaugural episode for BNN.

Collectors Cast: Episode 11 is their Force Friday episode with them giving their thoughts on the new collectibles, LEGO, the packaging, the new Falcon, Black Series, Disney Elite Series, talking figures and masks, BB-8 and some live reporting from the UK. They talk at length with fellow collectors Duncan Jenkins and with Steve Sansweet which rounds out the episode.

Comics With Kenobi: Episode #6 covers Shattered Empire #1, which they loved, and Darth Vader #9, which they didn’t love. Lots of spoilers, so if you haven’t read the issues, be sure to read them first before listening. They have some great discussion covering the artwork as much as the writing. Personally I was of an opposite opinion of the hosts, as I rather liked Darth Vader #9 and thought Shattered Empire #1 fell kind of flat. If you’re into the comics, give these guys a listen. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review with quite a few Star Wars authors for your listening enjoyment.

Bombad Radio: Episode 207 features an interview with Shannon Eric Denton as they talk comics, Airwolf and Star Wars. Eric has a pretty interesting story as he moved from being a comic artist, to an artist for animated shows, to being a writer. He’s a good guest and it’s a fun conversation. Worth checking out.

Coffee With Kenobi: Episode 43 is their pre-Force Friday show with some discussion on their collecting trips for Disney Infinity 3.0 figures. Their guests for this episode are Mike and Joao from The Cantina Cast as they dive into some meaty topics like Yoda, Obi-Wan, the chosen one prophecy and more. It’s an interesting discussion episode and good for any general Star Wars fan.

Fly Casual: Episode 55 is a news and rumors episode as they cover Star Wars #8, Kanan #5 and Lando #3. Then they head into Rogue One rumors, Kylo Ren rumors, a discussion on the length of the movie and whether one of the big 3 will die and which one. Overall, good show with the usual mix of humor, Star Wars geekdom and unpredictability. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…
