In a Hollywood Reporter story a spokesperson for LucasFilm reports that George Lucas plans to put almost the entire profit from his Disney deal into a foundation focused on educational issues.
“George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors.”
No word yet on which foundation will receive the funds although Lucas has already funded his own Eutopia which he’s the chairman of.
The spokesperson added that this continues the commitment Lucas made in 2010.
“I am dedicating the majority of my wealth to improving education. It is the key to the survival of the human race. We have to plan for our collective future—and the first step begins with social, emotional, and intellectual tools we provide to our children. As humans, our greatest tool for survival is our ability to think and to adapt—as educators, storytellers, and communicators our responsibility is to continue to do so.” ~ George Lucas

Movies:
It looks like the Hollywood remake wagon train is still plodding along. Latest report is Angelina Jolie starring in the title role of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty remake, Maleficent. Further word is Elle Fanning is in talks to play Aurora. The film will be directed by Robert Stromberg from a script penned by Linda Woolverton.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jolie says her children want her to make the movie and refer to her as “mom-elicent”.
Um, Angie, that may not be a compliment. Just saying. Continue Reading Around the Web…

According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has announced that Jason Isaacs’ new TV series, Awake, is scheduled to debut March 1.
Awake is a sci-fi crime drama and Isaacs plays a police detective, Michael Britten, who awakens after a car accident involving his wife and son. Britten moves between two realities where in one his wife dies and the other his son dies. Britten starts living a double life, attempting to keep both wife and son alive, while noticing strange links between the realities.
Over on Entertainment Weekly they’re reporting that J.J. Abrams has sold a sci-fi apocalypse pilot to NBC titled Revolution.
“A high octane action drama from J. J. Abrams following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.”
This is the second descriptive blurb released for Revolution, but the first sounded distinctly familiar to TNT’s Falling Skies. What with Awake debuting in March, Falling Skies returning in the summer, and Revolution set for the fall, at least it won’t be a total TV desert when it comes to scifi.
George Lucas is at it again and we can already hear the fanboy wailing. EW also has an article on Lucas changing puppet Yoda to digital in The Phantom Menace 3D. I don’t know how good the film will be in 3D, but it’s going to be fun to watch the dilemma for the fanboys who will probably be torn between their disdain for TPM and their reactionary ranting regarding any changes to the Star Wars films.
Movie Debuts:
Big Miracle: Drew Barrymore, Kristen Bell and John Krasinski
The Woman in Black: Daniel Radcliffe

We’re starting out today’s column with a fun find: The new Dark Shadow’s Barnabas Collins from Johnny Dep Italia. Directed by Tim Burton, the remake of the TV soap opera cult classic is set in 1972. The movie co-stars Eva Green
and Michelle Pfeiffer.
And speaking of Johnny Depp: there’s a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie in the works. At least script rewrites in hopes that Johnny will approve and say yes, according to POTC director Rob Marshall (via Hollywood Reporter):
“Terry [Rossio] is writing it and he’s working incredibly hard and he did a draft and rethought it all and started working on it again. You want to make sure you are asking the audience to come back to see an exciting adventure and it has to reach that caliber, and if not there’s no reason to do it. I know Johnny feels the same way: He needs to see a script, but he would be happy — if it’s the right script — to put that hat and sword back on.”
Johnny, just say no.
Inside TV announced that Season two of Game of Thrones will premiere April 1st with 10 episodes. No, this isn’t an April Fools prank.
Monday is season 2 premiere night for Syfy’s Being Human – American version, 9/8 PM EDT/CDT. At 10/9 PM EDT/CDT, Syfy will unfurl their newest show Lost Girl, plot revolving around a succubus AKA Fae. Think kinky.
Movies premiering this weekend:
Loosies, Albatross, Joyful Noise, Underworld: Awakening & Beauty, and the Beast 3D.
