Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an interesting departure for the Harry Potter franchise as it dives into a story without its most famous character. Can a Harry Potter movie without Harry Potter work? Yes. In fact, Fantastic Beasts is a surprisingly enjoyable film and one I highly recommend checking out.

First off, this movie stars a different wizard than the one most fans are familiar with. There is no Harry Potter in this film. Instead there’s Newt Scamander, and older wizard traveling to New York with a suitcase full of fantastic creatures and a secret mission of his own. The whole movie takes place in New York and is set in 1926 giving the film a very interesting vibe. In America, the wizarding world is very different. There are different rules, different customs and new people to meet and learn about. For instance they call muggles no-maj and wizards are encouraged to stay away from the non-magical community. It’s an interesting exploration of a world we thought we were familiar with. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Fantastic Beasts’…

Humor UI love the Harry Potter series, but I did notice some “minor” similarities between it and the Star Wars saga.  I’m not the only one.  Watch Aaron Woodall’s Humor U hilarious take on both these Hero’s Journey epics, done all in good fun.

Now that March Madness has finally wrapped up we can get on to the really important stuff in the world of sports.  Yes, I’m talking about the sixth annual Quidditch World Cup this Saturday in Kissimmee, Florida.  What, you were expecting Romania or the Scottish Highlands?  Sorry to disappoint, but you can expect brooms, quaffles and the golden snitch.  Fair warning, though, there are no Hollywood special effects here.  The games is played a bit more down to earth in our muggle world.

J K Rowling: for floating the idea that she’d like to do a director’s cut on two of her Harry Potter books.

“There were a couple of the Potters and I definitely knew that they needed another year,” Rowling told the BBC arts editor Will Compertz. Her last Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, came out in 2007.  “I had to write on the run and there were times when it was really tough.  “And I read them, and I think ‘Oh God, maybe I’ll go back and do a director’s cut,’ I don’t know.  There were a couple of the Potters and I definitely knew that they needed another year.”

You can catch a video of J K Rowling on BBC News.

Some interesting publishing news has come out recently, and one of the big headlines in the last week is Pottermore. J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, has recently opened up a site called Pottermore. Although the site kicked off with a circulation of rumors, it was soon revealed that the intention for Pottermore is that of an online store. On the surface that doesn’t sound all that interesting but one of the unique things about this store is that it will be the only place to buy Harry Potter eBooks. Up until now the Harry Potter books have been available only in print. The first up for release is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (UK) aka Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (US) which will go on sale in October in both digital audio format and eBook format. Unfortunately fans will have to wait awhile before Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets goes on sale as that won’t happen until early 2012. This also seems to indicate that it may take over a year for the whole series to be released in digital format. Continue Reading Pottermore Reveals the Future of the Publishing Industry…
