‘King Tiger #1’ Announced
March 28, 2015 at 8:30 am | Posted in Comic Books, Dark Horse | Leave a commentTags: doug wheatley, king tiger, randy stradley
Randy Stradley and Doug Wheatley have been working on the King Tiger series here and there as they’ve piggybacked the story into other comics, however, now it will be getting it’s own, standalone line starting with King Tiger #1.
Blood, death, and fire—the darkest kind of magic. A monstrous secret from King Tiger’s past has found the mystic warrior, but can Tiger’s skills and sorcery triumph against an unthinkable supernatural obscenity linked to his own destiny? If the Tiger falls, the Dragon with rise!
King Tiger #1 will be out in August and Nerdist did a nice interview with Randy Stradley you can check out here.
N: So, with that in mind, what can readers look forward to from this series?
RS: Well, without giving too much away, we’ll learn a little bit about the kind of man Tiger used to be compared to who he is now. And Tiger’s past catches up with him in a really huge and horrible way—death and destruction on a massive scale. There’s lots of kung fu, sword fighting, and even gun play, all with a magical twist. But at its heart, this is really a love story. And Doug Wheatley is making every panel of it awesome.

‘The Essential Characters’ Canceled?
December 16, 2013 at 7:36 pm | Posted in Books, News, Star Wars Books, Star Wars News | Leave a commentTags: daniel wallace, doug wheatley, the essential characters
At Star Wars Celebration VI, Del Rey unveiled some cool new Star Wars books that had readers excited. There was the big announcement of Sword of the Jedi, the Empire and Rebellion series, and a new essential guide to characters book. The guide turned into The Essential Characters and was to be written by Daniel Wallace and illustrated by Doug Wheatley. Doug even took time away from the Dark Times comic series in order to do the project.
Then Disney happened.
Inevitably that brought about a delay in its release. It was put on pause. Now it’s canceled…at least according to the edelweiss.
It’s not completely unexpected, but it’s still sad to see. With Episode VII forthcoming (not to mention spin off films and a whole sequel trilogy) there will be plenty of new guides in the future. The problem is the thought of all that hard work Daniel Wallace and Doug Wheatley poured into this guide and it not seeing the light of day. Let us hope we get some good news in the Star Wars literary world very soon, because us readers could definitely use it. In the meantime, we’ll all just have to settle for an awesome Darth Maul book coming at the end of January.

Update on ‘The Essential Characters’
September 12, 2013 at 10:00 am | Posted in Books, Star Wars, Star Wars Books | Leave a commentTags: daniel wallace, doug wheatley
According to Edelweiss, Star Wars: The Essential Characters is getting pushed back…way back…to March 1, 2016. The book, written by Daniel Wallace and illustrated by Doug Wheately, was set for an April 15, 2014 release. There hasn’t been much promotion of the book as of late, which is understandable considering the situation with Disney and Episode VII.
The large jump in the release could indicate that the publishing arm wants to delay the book in order to include characters from the new sequel films. If so, the content of the book could be getting a drastic change from the previously planned content. If they do add new characters, it’s unknown as of yet whether Doug Wheatley will be handling the additions or if a new artist will be brought in. Either way, there’s a lot up in the air with the release change.
