Star Trek: Paths of Disharmony is the fourth book in the Typhon Pact line of novels from Pocket Books at Simon and Schuster. It was written by Dayton Ward and was released in February 2011. 

The Typhon pact has had some hits and misses. Zero Sum Game was a mediocre novel, while Seize the Fire was very disappointing and Rough Beasts of Empire was partially amazing and partially poorly executed. I have also read some mixed books by Dayton Ward, so I wasn’t particularly excited about this one. However, one of my friends rated this very high on his list, and he and I have had similar thoughts on the Typhon pack novels thus far. So I was intrigued to see what this book was like. 

And I’m so glad I did, because not only is it the best Typhon Pact novel, it’s also one of Dayton Ward’s best novels.

Book Review: ‘A Time to Harvest’ by Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore

Star Trek: A Time to Harvest is the fourth book in the A Time to Series, produced by Pocket Books at Simon and Schuster, written by Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore, and released in May of 2004.

This book is a significant step up for Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore. I thought their previous book A Time to Sow was incredibly dull and boring. This book started out that way, and I was worried it would have the same issues. However, the second half of this book was amazing, and thus elevated the whole story for me. 

This book really doesn’t have much of a singular focus like the previous novels have. Dr. Crusher and Captain Picard probably have the most viewpoint chapters in the book, but certainly every main character had enough viewpoint chapters to make the book feel balanced. This book felt like a longer version of a Next Generation episode than the previous books had.

Star Trek: A Time to Sow is the third book in the “A Time to” series produced by Pocket Books at Simon and Schuster, and was written by Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore and released in April of 2004.

When the “A Time to” Series was launched, there were certain promises made. This series is meant to bridge the gap between Insurrection and Nemesis. And yet all of the reveals and development that was promised has yet to even become present three books in.

Book Review: ‘Peaceable Kingdoms’ by Dayton Ward

Star Trek: The Fall: Peaceable Kingdoms is the fifth and final novel in the epic crossover series of books from Pocket Books, written by Dayton Ward, and released in December of 2013. 

This book definitely felt like it would fit as one of the Next Generation movies. There is a lot of action, but also some great character moments. Unlike the Next Generation movies, it actually follows existing canon and works as part of a series.

The plotlines with Ishan Anjar and the plot to kill Nanietta Bacco are in full swing, with the entire main crew of Picard, Riker, Akkar, and Doctor Crusher all working behind the scenes to examine the evidence of who the President Pro Tempore really is and what their end goal is. I personally was hoping for a little more epic nature to the book, and it’s climax made me go “oh, that’s it”?
