Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks: “Reviewing Geek TV Shows” is a geek roundtable episode with guests Kay (FANgirl Blog), Emily (Wrong Button Blog) and Cory (Coffee with Kenobi). This episode includes lots of geek questions and discussions, some negativity on Gotham, thoughts and criticism on the new video game Destiny, and thoughts on geek tv shows and movies, especially Marvel and DC. Good episode overall.

Harry Potter and the Targets of Boba Fett” starts out with a Harry Potter discussion since Scott is watching all the films as they’re being screened at a local theater. They also talk some The Dark Crystal with their special co-host in this episode, Charli Armstrong (who fills in for Tricia). Then they head into an Indiana Jones discussion and the possibility and rumors of an Indy 5. Later they’re joined by Dan Zehr as they talk about Star Wars Rebels.

Bombad Radio: October Free-For-All episode includes host James, and guests Scott Murray and Steve Crellin. As usual in the free-for-all, they cover a lot of topics, but this time around Star Wars stays their main focus. From Christopher Walken going to the dark side to Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Episode VII (include a potential major spoiler which I fast forwarded through). They also go over Gotham and share their thoughts on the series and where it needs to go to maintain interest.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 161 starts off with an unboxing of Dungeons & Dragons Next, flows into a con report of SDCC 2014, then jumps into the main feature: an interview with actor Adam Lazarre-White who voiced Jacob in the Mass Effect series. Adam talks about he got into acting, his early career in soap opera, moving into voice acting, the differences between roles, identifying scenes, being the character, and even basing Jacob on Han Solo. Kind of a neat interview and worth listening to if you’re a Mass Effect fan or interesting in acting and voice acting.

Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #22 includes some feedback on the Star Wars Rebels trailer out of SDCC 2014, some comments on the X-wing revealed in the Force for Change video, and the usual “Expresso Shot” from the Bearded Trivia hitting film news including Jurassic World. Consetta Parker stops by to talk about the upcoming Rancho Obi-Wan Gala, and they interview author Ian Doescher. Ian talks about the William Shakespeare Star Wars books, finding the right voices for the characters, and even shares what he’s working on next. Lot of goodness packed into this one episode, so be sure to check it out.

Special Edition: Coffee with Kenobi Discusses SDCC 2014” includes their thoughts on the Star Wars Rebels preview clips and the character of the Inquisitor. Then they with special guest Jeff McGee (Assembly of Geeks) about SDCC and collectibles. Jeff’s always a fun guy to listen to and Star Wars Rebels and SDCC make good discussion topics. Another good one to add to your playlist.

While Random House has been very quiet, Becker & Mayer has made some new book reveals in their latest catalog.

Star Wars: Imperial Handbook: A Commander’s Guide (Deluxe Edition)
by Daniel Wallace

As the Imperial Empire expands, high-ranking officials from each branch of the Imperial Military have set down tactical guidelines and procedures for all newly ascending commanders. Set in-universe, this compendium of ordinance, mission reports, and Imperial philosophy was intercepted by members of the Rebel Alliance, some of whom also left commentary scribbled in the margins. Housed in a deluxe case that opens with lights and sounds, this never-before-seen Imperial Handbook is perfect for Star Wars fans–no matter which side of the Civil War they’re on.

‘The Essential Characters’ Canceled?

At Star Wars Celebration VI, Del Rey unveiled some cool new Star Wars books that had readers excited. There was the big announcement of Sword of the Jedi, the Empire and Rebellion series, and a new essential guide to characters book. The guide turned into The Essential Characters and was to be written by Daniel Wallace and illustrated by Doug Wheatley. Doug even took time away from the Dark Times comic series in order to do the project.

Then Disney happened.

Inevitably that brought about a delay in its release. It was put on pause. Now it’s canceled…at least according to the edelweiss.

It’s not completely unexpected, but it’s still sad to see. With Episode VII forthcoming (not to mention spin off films and a whole sequel trilogy) there will be plenty of new guides in the future. The problem is the thought of all that hard work Daniel Wallace and Doug Wheatley poured into this guide and it not seeing the light of day. Let us hope we get some good news in the Star Wars literary world very soon, because us readers could definitely use it. In the meantime, we’ll all just have to settle for an awesome Darth Maul book coming at the end of January.
