Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. There’s also a new porg champion this week.

Beltway Banthas: Episode 39 goes from discussing a living constitution to Force Friday. They discuss Trevorrow being fired (pre-J.J. announcement), then they talk about the novel Inferno Squad. They do go into spoilers, so fair warning. One thing that makes their discussion unique is some of the real life comparisons they make to extremist groups around the world.

Porg Count: 4, Runtime: 1 hour 5 minutes, Rating: Good episode

Blabba the Hutt: Episode 34 features guest Craig Miller as Jamie talks to him about his work on Star Wars. Craig talks about meeting Charlie Lippencott, marketing the film at conventions, Kenner and the empty box, marketing tricks, leveraging the comics, seeing a rough cut in November, directing the Star Wars episode of Sesame Street and operating R2-D2, the 800 number for Empire, overloading AT&T’s system and leveraging that for extra marketing, what he’s doing now and other stories. Great interview.

Porg Count: 0 (Porg Free), Runtime: 1 hour 6 minutes, Rating: Great episode

Blast Points: Episode 91 starts out with the J.J. Abrams news, then they dive deep into Star Wars by taking a closer look at the sound mixes for A New Hope. They discuss the different sound mixes and go through the history of all of them, from the theatrical release all the way to the Blu-ray. They compare the Dolby mix to the Mono mix and play audio clips to illustrate the differences. You might be surprised which ones your more familiar with.

Porg Count: 1, Runtime: 1 hour 8 minutes, Rating: Fun episode Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 038 focuses on the Witches of Dathomir. They steer clear of Legends as they discuss how the witches were portrayed in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the novel Dark Disciple. They talk about their culture, compare them to the Sith and Jedi, and discuss their relationship with Palpatine. Pretty good episode.

Assembly of Geeks: Sorcerer’s Stone & Classic NES Madness covers the rush to buy the new NES console, they talk Big Bang Theory, the Han Solo movie, Doctor Strange, and some Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which leads to some Harry Potter discussion. Good episode.

Awards Chatter: Robert De Niro episode features a nice interview with the actor as they touch on a bunch of the movies that have stretched across his long career, his thoughts on comedies versus drama, how he ended up working with Scorsese and De Palma, some of the movies he’s had to pass on, and his thoughts on his latest movie The Comedian. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Beyond the Vote: Episode #006 covers a bad week for Trump as he talks abortion, the numbers involved for delegates, and what’s in store for the convention. Riley and Scott take politics and make it interesting. It’s noteworthy when each week one of the podcasts I look forward to most has nothing to do with Star Wars.

Blast Points: Episode 17 continues to raise the bar as Jason interviews Star Wars author J.W. Rinzler. I’ve heard Jason do a handful of interviews, and he always does a top notch job with some excellent questions. In this episode he talks with Rinzler about his first exposure to Star Wars, getting a job at Lucasfilm, making the Making Of books, and tries to get in a question about the Making of The Force Awakens, which unfortunately gets shot down. Good try though. They wrap up with some quick Star Wars favorite questions to finish off a fun interview. Be sure to give this one a listen.

Bombad Radio: Episode 236 features a Rogue One roundtable discussion with Jeremiah, James, Jason, Gabe and author Adam Bray as they give a full breakdown of the trailer with some excellent observations and connections. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…
