Retro Reviews: ‘Dark Disciple’ by Christie Golden

Dark Disciple by Christie Golden is the first novel in the canon to utilize unproduced scripts from The Clone Wars television series, originally written by Dave Filoni, Matt Michnovetz, and Katie Lucas. It was released in July of 2015.
The first thing I have to say is that Christie Golden did exactly what any novelizer should do. She added information and beats to the story to make it flow better, but kept true to the facts and spirit of the original story. She made something made for kids television translate into a novel for adults. That would be a daunting enough challenge, even if it wasn’t a Star Wars property, and yet Christie Golden met that challenge head on and did a great job. Assassin’s Creed: Heresy by Christie Golden is out today in hardcover, paperback and digital formats.
From New York Times bestselling author Christie Golden comes an original story set in the universe of Assassin’s Creed. Reliving the memories of his ancestor who fought beside Joan of Arc, high-ranking Templar Simon Hathaway slowly uncovers secrets of the past that could dangerously impact his present…and that of the entire Templar order.
This premium hardcover edition features exclusive art sketches and behind the scenes interviews, as well as a special code to unlock Assassin’s Creed rewards through Ubisoft Club’s loyalty program.
An endless conflict. An old wrong. A new revelation.
Simon Hathaway, member of the Templar Inner Sanctum, brings a cool head and detached manner to his new role as Head of Abstergo Industry’s Historical Research Division.
But Simon also has an insatiable curiosity, and is fascinated by the thought of experiencing history first-hand through his ancestor–Gabriel Laxart, who fought alongside the legendary Joan of Arc.
When he enters the newly-designed Animus for its initial project, Simon finds himself unprepared for what he discovers: How deep the conflict between the Templars and the Assassins goes. What Gabriel will do for the woman he both loves and reveres.
And the most dangerous truth of all: Who is the heretic…and who is the true believer.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Ausfans Radio: Episode 31 features a great interview with author John Jackson Miller covering his new trilogy Star Trek: Prey. They talk about Prey, the films, the tv series, his previous Star Trek stories, and what else he has coming out. Good audio quality and very impressive for an international interview as those don’t typically have the best audio quality. Good one to check out.
Beltway Banthas: Episode XIII is a fun one as they spotlight the Star Wars character Mas Amedda and discuss his role in the politics of Star Wars. I have to admit, I’d never really considered how important his character would have been, and it definitely seems a shame that Chuck Wendig didn’t play up on that a little better in Life Debt. They do talk about the character’s role in Life Debt which could be considered a little spoilery if you haven’t read that book yet. This episode features guest Mike DeRose. If you’re an Amedda fan, you’ll love this one, and if you’re not, you might just come away with a better understanding of the character.
Bombad Radio: In Memory of Eric Cone episode pays homage to their friend and Bombad Radio contributor Eric Cone who recently passed. They talk about his deep fandom, his love for Batman, Star Trek and the creators and artists, and they share memories of the good times they had. Nice episode which manages to stay upbeat while still paying tribute to a lost friend. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…
