Here is this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond.

Book News

  • Star Wars artist Grant Gould will be illustrating How to Draw Star Wars Rebels. No word on a release date yet.

Comic News

  • Randy Stradley gave an update on Star Wars trade paperback and omnibus collections over on the Dark Horse forums.

The second Dark Times Omnibus is indeed our final scheduled Omnibus. We will produce trades for all of the current series, but there is not enough time within our remaining license to publish Omnibuses. Dark Horse’s goal, obviously, must be to sell as much of our inventory before our final cut-off date.

There may — and I stress may be one more hardcover book before the end of the year. News about that when I have it.

To kick things off, how about some reassuring news regarding Dark Horse Comics and Star Wars. According to Bleeding Cool, Star Wars will be with Dark Horse Comics for the entirety of 2014.

They will continue to make Darth Vader miniseries, Star Wars Legacy will remain an ongoing book and will alternate between artists every six issues and the mini-series based on George Lucas’ original drafts, The Star Wars, will have a radically different logo to differentiate it.

Star Wars artist Dave Dorman did a video interview with Slice of SciFi which you can watch here. Dave talks about how he got started and what he’s up to now. Continue Reading Around the Web…

Brand New Star Wars Comic Unveiled

Dark Horse Comics has announced via io9 that they have a brand new Star Wars comic called…Star Wars. The new title will be an ongoing series set during the Original Trilogy and written by Brian Wood. They also reveal cover art by Alex Ross, interior art by Carlos D’Anda, and some answers from Dark Horse editor Randy Stradley.

Randy Stradley: As for how this series is “different” from past entries in this time period, I guess the answer would be that we’re trying very had to keep everything fresh — as if Episode IV had just come out in theaters. This is the Star Wars series for everyone who has loved the films, but has never delved into any of the comics or novels. There is no vast continuity that a reader needs to know beyond the events in A New Hope. This is the beginning of the adventures of Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie.

The new series will debut in January. Follow the link to see all of Stradley’s teasers as well as the interior art.
