Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. Lot of great interviews this week.

BNN: Episode 9.14.2015 is something a little different from the folks of Bombad Radio as they try a shorter, news focused podcast that’s actually pretty useful. They bring the news with a touch of humor, touching on not just Star Wars, but other topics like Batman v. Superman, Jurassic World, upcoming movies, home releases, video games, comics, webshows, etc. If you’re wondering what’s coming out now, or what news came out this week, then this is a great way to catch up. Best of all, they pack it all in under 30 minutes. I really like the short format and I think it works great for news. It’s very convenient for sliding the episodes in between your normal podcasts on your playlist, thus allowing you to get the news and not fall behind, but also not get stuck with a one to two hour show. The one drawback I noticed in this episode, however, is that the rundown on new comic releases was really long, big info dump, and that’s kind of hard to get away from as a lot of comics come out every week. They might need to work on that a little (either just highlighting the popular titles or some choice picks), otherwise it’s pretty solid. Keep in mind this is their inaugural episode for BNN.

Collectors Cast: Episode 11 is their Force Friday episode with them giving their thoughts on the new collectibles, LEGO, the packaging, the new Falcon, Black Series, Disney Elite Series, talking figures and masks, BB-8 and some live reporting from the UK. They talk at length with fellow collectors Duncan Jenkins and with Steve Sansweet which rounds out the episode.

Comics With Kenobi: Episode #6 covers Shattered Empire #1, which they loved, and Darth Vader #9, which they didn’t love. Lots of spoilers, so if you haven’t read the issues, be sure to read them first before listening. They have some great discussion covering the artwork as much as the writing. Personally I was of an opposite opinion of the hosts, as I rather liked Darth Vader #9 and thought Shattered Empire #1 fell kind of flat. If you’re into the comics, give these guys a listen. ForceCast: Special CEII Artist Interviews Episode one includes some really nice interviews with Star Wars Celebration Europe II artists Joe Corroney, Hugh Fleming and Lin Zy. All three artists are interviewed by fellow artist Spencer Brinkerhoff III. Definitely worth listening to.

Special CEII Artist Interviews Episode two covers Star Wars artists Brian Rood, Chris Trevas and Jerry Vanderstelt. I’m really enjoying these special interview episodes. Spencer does a great job and I’m looking forward to listening to more.

Full of Sith: The Story of Star Wars Special Release episode is something fans may or may not want to skip. Mike gives a brief intro and then plays The Story of Star Wars (which was a record released in 1977) in its entirety. It’s basically the audio for A New Hope but with narration so listeners can follow along with the action. Definitely cool to have it out there if you ever want to give it a listen. Jedi News Interviw with Brian Rood

Jedi News posted a really nice interview with Star Wars artist Brian Rood covering his painting for Star Wars Celebration Europe II.

What was the inspiration behind your Celebration Europe piece?

Brian Rood: I have wanted to do this painting for some time…I like the idea of seeing Boba Fett returning to his childhood home in his adult life. We don’t necessarily know what he is doing here. The viewer is not sure if Boba is coming or going…Is he having a moment of doubt or a moment of personal reflection. I love having artwork that can have dozens of possible stories behind one piece. The idea of portraying the actor Temuera Morrison as Boba is something that I have wanted to do since I first saw Episode II. I saw one of Art Andrews photographs of a crouching Boba Fett and that was the initial spark behind the characters pose and setting of this painting. The initial design was just Fett and his ship. It was fun but putting him in the rain in front of his childhood home, really added a new dimension to the story I was trying to portray.

For everyone who was not able to attend the Book Expo America 2013 Star Wars panel, the video is up online. It has a short skit from William Shakespeare’s Star Wars, a hoola hooping Leia, and at the 00:15:30 mark, trivia with authors Jason Fry and Matthew Reinhart. Audiobook narrator Marc Thompson comes on at the 33 minute mark to voice a scene from Troy Denning’s Crucible where Leia, Han and Lando get blown up by an asteroid. The panel finishes with a video for Star Wars Reads Day with clips of Timothy Zahn, Ryder Windham, Chris Reiff, Matthew Reinhart, James Luceno, Jeffrey Brown, John Jackson Miller, Jason Fry, and Pablo Hidalgo from Star Wars Celebration VI (which starts at the 41 minute mark).

And speaking of Star Wars Reads Day, a few Star Wars celebrities have already confirmed their participation and where they’ll be at.
