Paul S. Kemp has posted an excerpt from his upcoming Egil and Nix novel A Discourse In Steel. Features some wonderful dialog from his colorful characters.
Paul S. Kemp: A bit of Egil and Nix from A DISCOURSE IN STEEL, the follow up to THE HAMMER AND THE BLADE. Unedited, of course. Forgive any awkwardness or typos.
“Smells like wet dog,” Nix said, just to say something.
“Bah,” Egil said, and raised his hammers as if he could smite the offending stink with them. “It smells like a diseased dog that bathed in the Deadmire and then rolled in its own shite. I’d breathe deep the smell of a merely wet dog.” Continue Reading New ‘A Discourse In Steel’ Excerpt…

Good news for The Hammer and Blade fans, Angry Robot Books has signed author Paul S. Kemp for a third Egil and Nix novel! Here’s the press release.
Angry Robot is delighted to announce that, due to the immense popularity of Paul S. Kemp‘s The Hammer and the Blade – the first in his Tales of Egil and Nix series of sword and sorcery fantasy adventure novels – we have signed Paul up to write a third book starring our favourite tomb robbers.
Tentatively titled A Conversation in Blood, the book is scheduled for Summer 2014. To sate readers’ appetites for more great sword and sorcery action, the second in the series,A Discourse in Steel, will be published in June of next year.
Find out more about Paul S. Kemp, who also writes for the Star Wars and Forgotten Realmsuniverses, at his website: www.paulskemp.com and follow him on Twitter @PaulSKemp.
Paul S. Kemp: “I don’t know about you, but my pink parts are all tingly! Wait, is that too much information? Uh, sorry. So, anyway, continuing my relationship with the metallic overlords? Check. Writing more stories in the sword and sorcery sub-genre I love? Double check. The long and short of it? I’m smiling. Hugely. I’ve had so much fun writing about Egil and Nix, and have had such positive feedback from readers who’ve had a blast, too, that I’m just delighted to have the opportunity to write more of their adventures. Huzzah!”
Angry Robot Editor Lee Harris added: “The Hammer and the Blade has proven to be one of our most popular titles of 2012, so it was an easy decision to ask Paul to write more in that world. Sword and Sorcery is alive and well and living in Paul S Kemp’s brilliant Tales of Egil and Nixseries.”
The third book in the Tales of Egil and Nix is tentatively titled A Conversation in Blood and slated for a Summer 2014 release. The second novel in the series, A Discourse in Steel, is now scheduled for a June 2013 release.

Paul S. Kemp whose next Egil and Nix story A Discourse in Steel is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
FANgirlblog for their interview with Darth Internous who many will know from the Star Wars Books Facebook page. Darth Internous aka Tom Hoeler gave some interesting insight on what it’s like to work for Del Rey and with the Star Wars Books team. Definitely worth checking out.
EUCantina for their interview with Haden Blackman, the writer for Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison.
Steve Thomas for his amazingly cool Star Wars themed vintage travel poster art. Here’s an example and you can see the rest on his website.
The Rumor that Matt Stover is taking over for Karen Traviss with Imperial Commando. We still don’t know if it’s true because it hasn’t been confirmed or denied. But it sure provided some entertaining WTF moments out there in fandom.

Geek Life Interviews Paul S. Kemp
August 13, 2012 at 12:00 am | Posted in Books, Fantasy, Interview | Leave a commentTags: angry robot books, paul s. kemp, tales of egil and nix, the hammer and the blade
Geek Life posted an interview with author Paul S. Kemp on Friday. The interview asks twenty questions that vary from “If you were a beer, what brand would you be and why?” to ‘Paul, other than roleplaying, what is the geekiest thing about you?” Of course they also cover Paul’s latest novel The Hammer and the Blade.
Did you establish magical cannon in the novel, or did you just MSU (Make Stuff Up) as you went along?
PSK: I did establish some canon, but I want (and did) keep it very loose. Magic systems are fine and work well in lots of books. But I personally love the idea of magic as this kind of nearly inscrutable force/tool utilized by practitioners in many different ways. Think of Howard’s Conan stories, or the Thieves’ World anthologies: In those, magic and sorcerers come in all kinds of shapes and flavors. I really like that as an approach. Gives the world a real sense of wonder.
There’s a pretty good spectrum of questions, so it’s worth checking out. Click here to read the full interview.
