Tales From Vader’s Castle #2 has a real vampire vibe going for it with Dooku and some bat monsters playing the villains. This time Obi-Wan and Adi Gallia serve as the heroes as they investigate reports of a Dark Lord causing trouble for the local populace. Interestingly enough, Dooku becomes a victim to the bat monsters when they turn on him, and together, they all defeat the bat monsters.

My problem with the story is that the cover shows mynocks, and while the bat monsters get mistaken for mynocks by Obi-Wan, and they do act like mynocks in that they suck power, they are very much not mynocks. The bat monsters look very different from mynocks, and their bites cause people to turn into bat monsters. The art is okay for the most part, but I wasn’t a huge fan of it. There was a double splash page that was kind of hard to follow when Dooku was bitten. Plus I would have preferred a more classic mynock look for the monsters instead of the man bat things they went with.

The framing story continues to follow the shipwrecked crew as they deal with some creatures on Mustafar and inch their way closer to Vader’s castle. It leaves off with them having to deal with a bunch of elite troops guarding the castle.

Overall, a decent issue. Kind of neat, but it could have done better with some different artwork. As is, I give it three out of five nexus.
