Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary

DK Books has done it again with yet another fantastic visual dictionary, this time covering Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Authored by Star Wars story group member Pablo Hidalgo, this book is a wealth of information on the characters and technology from the film. There’s insightful background info, the names of species, characters, droids and weapons, and key pieces of information that answer questions leftover from the movie. Having read almost all of the tie-in material so far, this is by far the best book for additional information on The Force Awakens.

At just 80 pages, this thin hardcover accomplishes a lot. It’s roughly 12×10 inches which presents a nice large-sized format for the beautiful pictures within. While there is no picture count in the publisher details, this book is packed with useful pictures showcasing everything. From droids and scavenging tools to the main characters and the main ships, it’s all in there. Each page is covered with pictures, fun facts and details. For instance, longtime Star Wars fans may find it interesting that the famous BlasTech and Merr-Sonn weapons companies formed a hybrid company just so they could sell armaments to the First Order under the guise of Sonn-Blas. Pulling it back a bit, the book reveals who Rey’s X-Wing helmet belongs to, it talks about the Hutt for which Niima Outpost is named after, Han’s venture as a pro racer, Chewbacca leaving Han’s side to go back home, a hint for C-3PO’s red arm, and even a reason why R2-D2 is dormant. Whether it’s an important fact with bearing on the film or just fun things to know, the book has tons to offer.

Also worth noting is the mini-Star Wars atlas that the book starts out with. There’s a nice two page spread showcasing the new planets shown in the movie and little paragraphs on each. There’s also a new map of the galaxy which shows where all the new planets are located as well as some familiar ones.

With exceptional content and great pictures, Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary is a must buy. It will answer questions about the film and expand your knowledge. Seriously, this is one book you will not want to skip. I give it a five out of five metal bikinis.
