The issue opens with an C-3PO and R2-D2 story. The interesting thing is it’s set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, so both are traveling with Captain Antilles. 3PO has already had his mind wiped, so he doesn’t remember anything about R2. Still, the two of them have a little adventure with a seeker droid that gets them into trouble. It’s a fun little story and a reminder of how little we know about the two droids during this period in time.

The artwork for “Trouble Again” has a very stylistic version of C-3PO. While everyone is cartoony, 3PO looks really off and different. I’m not overly fond of the way Chad Thomas drew his face. Aside from that, it looks fine and the colors are great.

“IG-88 vs. the Gatto Gang” also takes a different approach in that this time the tale is told by the droid Crater. The story follows IG-88 on a hunt for the Gatto Gang which leads to some humorous moments as he hunts each of the three members down. The artwork in this story does a little trick with the coloring to emphasize key elements in the panels. The rest of the panel is left subdued. Thus a panel will show IG-88 and the gang members he is hunting in full color, but the rest of the alien crowd is all done in subdued, muted tones. It makes certain elements pop, but without sacrificing the detail in each panel. It actually works pretty well.

As a fan of the bounty hunters, I liked the IG-88 story better, but both were good and together, they make Star Wars Adventures #9 worth checking out. I give it a four out of five metal bikinis.
