Star Wars Adventures #5 kicks off with part 2 of “The Trouble at Tibrin.” This wraps up the adventure with Leia and Luke as they try to recruit the Ishi Tib to the Rebel cause. With Luke captured by the Empire and being tortured on a Star Destroyer in orbit, it’s up to Leia to infiltrate the ship and rescue him. In a way, it’s an alternate take on A New Hope. This time Leia is the one breaking Luke out of captivity, dressing up and impersonating an Imperial. She also winds up in a trash compactor, but this time it’s part of her infiltration plan. The artwork is pretty good and the story isn’t too bad.
Afterwards, the issue continues with Tales From Wild Space which features a story by Delilah S. Dawson. Delilah wrote the Phasma novel, and the novella The Perfect Weapon which featured The Force Awakens character Bazine Netal. “The Best Pet” steps away from those characters and instead jumps into The Last Jedi as she follows around the porgs on Ahch-to. The story highlights some of the characteristics of the porgs as it follows them around the Falcon where they occasionally bump into Chewbacca and Rey. The artwork for this story is fantastic and Arianna Florean does an outstanding job. It’s a cute story.
Overall, this issue leans a little harder on the kid spectrum, so adults might want to read this one on the shelf before picking it up. The kids will probably really enjoy it, though. I give it a three out of five nexus.
