Star Wars Adventures #4 contains two stories, as usual. The first story is a multi-parter that’s left “to be continued” while the second story is a little self-contained one with all original characters.

“The Trouble at Tibrin” stars Luke and Leia as they go on a diplomatic mission to the planet of the Ishi Tib. Unfortunately for them, they bring along a couple of fresh recruits whose big mouths get them in trouble. There’s a cameo from a K-2SO type security droid, and there’s lots of action as Luke and Leia have a shootout with stormtroopers. The cliffhanger ending leaves things in suspense. It’s a fun little story and the artwork is really good, packing in a lot of detail for the characters.

“Mattis Makes a Stand” is a self-contained story on the planet Durkteel. A couple of kids on a farm come across a fellow kid who is bullying one of their friends. The bully is a “lizard-guy”. Back in Legends, they were called Saurin and were considered a subspecies of Trandoshans (what Bossk is) but at this point in the canon, I’m not sure if that still holds up. Saurin were different from the Trandoshans as they were shorter. A few of them can be seen in the Mos Eisley cantina in A New Hope and on Jabba’s sail barge in Return of the Jedi. Anyways, one of these lizard-guys is the bad guy. They story shows how stories of heroes can help inspire others to be heroic. It’s a good story, but unfortunately the artwork is really bad. The coloring is fine, but the line work is a very rough, simple style that looks amateurish and, well, not good.

This issue is a little hit and miss, so depending on what kind of completest you are when it comes to Star Wars, you may or may not want to check this one out. I give it a three out of five metal bikinis.
