Star Wars #69

Star Wars #69

Writer: Greg Pak
Artist/Cover Artist: Phil Noto
Letterer: Clayton Cowles

Each of the adventures heat up in Star Wars #69 as our heroes get in and out of trouble.

First up, we learn more about Leia’s ex-boyfriend and their background. He sets them up at a local hotel, and they carry on with their mission. However, someone is spying on the. Pak does a good job with Leia and Han’s dialog and it had me laughing at a couple points. Elsewhere, Luke takes out a probe droid and meets up with the local Rebels. Then he gets caught up with a girl who might be Force sensitive and is definitely trouble. But is she the fun kind? Who knows where that is going, but it’s interesting. Lastly, Chewbacca and 3PO get into trouble with the rock people when 3PO tries to talk to them. They take off, but then fly back after deciding they can’t just wipe out a bunch of sentient lifeforms. That said, it’s no easy task ahead of them as the Empire has arrived.

Phil Noto continues to do a great job with the artwork. Some of the scenes between Han and Leia are just spot on with their facial expressions. As much as the dialog is able to express about the two, the artwork goes even further by adding to the scenes with great visual cues. And then there’s the last panel with a big Star Destroyer coming out of the sky. Such a great image to leave the issue on.

With great artwork and a fun story, Star Wars #69 is killing it. I give this one a five out of five metal bikinis.
