Star Wars #65 sets up the endgame as the fate of Shu-Torun is on the brink. The partisans are trying to blow it up, Queen Trios is trying to save it, and the Imperials are planning on just blowing up everyone on in the Imperial Retreat – which is everyone we care about. Who will live and who will die? Well, we’ll have to wait at least another issue for those answers. For now it’s all about the suspense.

The issue opens Trios trying to figure out how to counter the rebels. Meanwhile Luke and the partisans are taking out the generators. Unfortunately Benthic hijacks the plan and uses the last generator to blow up the entire planet. Meanwhile Trios gets free, and strikes back. Elsewhere the Empire has been informed of what’s going on and plans to just wipe out the control center to take care of the rebel problem, unaware, and perhaps uncaring even if they did know, that Trios is there now. The issues ends with the fate of the planet, Trios, the partisans, and the rebels all on the line. It’s a good way to hype up the story.

The artwork in this issue is really good. The character likenesses are very nice, the panels are big, detailed and showy with visual impact. There’s rich coloring and lighting. All around it’s very pleasing.

With a story that ratchets up the tension, and great artwork, there’s a lot to like in this issue. I give Star Wars #65 a five out of five metal bikinis.
