Star Wars #15 brings us back to the journal of Obi-Wan Kenobi and another adventure on Tatooine. This time his travels involve the Jawas and Uncle Owen. Yet there is also a hint for things to come.

The issue opens with Luke flying through Beggar’s Canyon in his T-16 Skyhopper. Doing so in one piece, however, is another matter. It’s a great way to start the story as it ties into the film and ties together the characters. Readers get to see a younger version of Luke and Owen’s rough-around-the-edges parenting. We also see Obi-Wan continuing to watch the boy from a distance. Keeping the story interesting, Jason Aaron throws in Jawas and Tusken Raiders. It all results in some fun scenes.

The artwork is absolutely gorgeous. There is a lot of photorealistic shots of the characters with extremely rich coloring. Mike Mayhew blows this one out of the water by truly bringing the story to life. The imagery adds so much to the story that I found myself lingering over the panels to catch all the extra details. It’s amazing the amount of emotion Mike’s able to capture with the character’s faces.

The comic ends on an interesting note by shifting gears to Jabba’s palace. It appears the Hutt is still sore about the guy who beat up his thugs. After a display of skill, Black Krrsantan takes on the job of finding Kenobi and bringing him to the Hutt’s justice. It’s worth noting Krrsantan has no scars at this point. One can only assume those marks are earned from a skirmish with Old Ben Kenobi. Alas, that is a story yet to come.

With exceptional artwork and a fun story, I give Star Wars #15 a five out of five metal bikinis.
