Star Wars #12 cranks it to eleven for some ridiculous fun. Seriously, it gets crazy. From killing Dengar to handing lightsabers out like candy, hardly anything is predictable in this issue. With lots of action, good artwork and a wild story, readers are in for a heck of a ride.

It all starts on the rooftops of Nar Shaddaa as Han and Leia save Chewbacca from near death. However Dengar overplays his hand and suffers the consequences. Once again, Chewbacca throws someone off the roof. But this time the victim doesn’t land on a passing garbage scowl. Instead, Dengar blows up in mid air by his own thermal detonator. Is he really dead? Well, there is some room to fudge that one, but the way the art is done, there’s credible justification in thinking the bandaged bounty hunter is no more.

This could be the death of Dengar.

Elsewhere, Luke battles Kongo the Disemboweler, but the battle is cut short by the Empire as they attack Grakkus’ palace. We find out the Gamemaster’s real identity, and then all hell breaks loose. Grakkus goes into attack mode, Kongo comes back, and R2 goes crazy with the lightsabers. Sure, we’ve seen Han use a lightsaber in The Empire Strikes Back. We’ve seen Leia use a lightsaber in the old Legends material. But Chewbacca? Yes! Chewbacca gets not one, but two lightsabers! It’s nuts, but it’s also flipping awesome.

Toning down the craziness of the story, Sana’s husband subplot gets some more development as she admits to Leia that she’s not Han’s husband. She comes clean, perhaps finally admits the lie to herself, but also teases at something more. What does she need the money for? While we don’t find out, it’s the best work I’ve seen with her subplot yet. I didn’t much like the long wait to get to this point, but I’m glad it’s actually getting somewhere.

Not only does Vader show up in this issue, he literally destroys a Jedi holocron. That could very well be the cherry on top of this insane issue.

With wall-to-wall craziness, this issue is a heaping load of fun. It may be a bit much for some Star Wars fans, but if you’re open to some extreme awesomeness in your galaxy far, far away, this one is a must read. I give Star Wars #12 a five out of five metal bikinis.
