Here we go again, another Star Wars #1. This new iteration starts with Luke being haunted by his fight with his father on Cloud City. He relives the moment of his hand being cut off and finding out the truth of who Darth Vader is. While Luke sits on the Falcon‘s couch lost in his thoughts, everyone else is arguing about what to do next. This leads them to a space battle.

Elsewhere, we’re introduced to Imperial Commander Zahra of the Star Destroyer Tarkin’s Will. She’s managed to break the Rebel codes and locate two of their cells. Leia and company arrive to help rescue one of those cells from being wiped out. The other cell on Malasatare gets wiped out. It’s a nice little action packed battle, with Lando jumping into the pilot’s seat for the Falcon, Luke trying to shoot ships with one hand and resorting to the Force, and some cameos from Poe’s mom and dad. Vader also shows up in this issue for the after action report, and he makes it clear that the Falcon and a certain individual on board must not ever come to harm.

The interesting thing about this issue is that Luke doesn’t have his robot hand yet. Which means this takes place before the last scene in The Empire Strikes Back. How far Soule is going with this, who knows, but it’s a neat idea to explore.

The story has promise, the dialog is good, and the artwork is pretty good too. So far it’s off to a good start. I give it a five out of five metal bikinis.
