Poe Dameron #12

Poe Dameron #12

Writer: Charles Soule
Artist/Cover Artist: Phil Noto
Letterer: Joe Caramagna

Terex unleashes his hounds in Poe Dameron #12 and Poe counters with his army of droids. It’s a battle in the ice caves as Dameron is on the run and Terex is on the hunt. But who will win?

First off, this issue was a lot of fun. I really got a kick out of Terex and his minions. Poe’s a little too straight laced to be funny, but Terex and his motley bunch of pirates more than make up for it. The other factor that’s kind of neat is how useful most of Poe’s droid allies are. BB-8 pulls some commando work before being taken out. Even C-3PO pulls his weight. The only one of no use whatsoever is the commando droid. All that in mind, the icing on the cake is how well things are going for Terrex.

When it comes down to it, if you give me a compelling villain, I’ll root for the bad guys. So when things go right for Terex, it makes me happy. He manages to take out BB-8, and then captures C-3PO and turns the protocol droid into a prize. His fleet in space seem to have the advantage as they swoop in to attack Black Squadron. It would seem victory is nigh for the First Order spy. Alas, he’s probably going to get beat in the next issue as Oddy turns the tables. But for now, there’s a taste of victory.

Speaking of Oddy, we learn a bit more about the alien and what he’s up to on Terex’s ship. For one thing, he’s trying to save his wife. For another, she was being held hostage in order to force Oddy into doing things against the Resistance. So Oddy was the mole, but he’s also trying to make up for it. It’s the kind of twist that works well as it has a deeper meaning than most. Storywise, Charles Soule is on top of his game in this issue.

Artwise, Phil Noto isn’t doing too bad either. The comic does a good job of conveying the imagery and bringing the story to life. It’s not the most beautiful comic you’ll ever read, but it’s pleasing to the eye and gets the job done.

All in all, I give Poe Dameron #12 a five out of five metal bikinis. This one was fun and I’m enjoying Terex as the pirate lord.
