Poe Dameron #11

Poe Dameron #11

Writer: Charles Soule
Artist/Cover Artist: Phil Noto
Letterer: Joe Caramagna

Poe Dameron #11 takes place entirely in space as pilot Poe Dameron flees Kaddak with Agent Terex in pursuit. This leads to a little bit of action, some movement on the plot, and a new subplot for Oddy Muva.

The issue opens with Poe jumping to hyperspace to escape Terex and feeling bad at having to leave Oddy behind. Little does Poe know that Oddy is actually on Terex’s ship with a mission of his own. This subplot bounces back and forth as we catch glimpses of Oddy on the Carrion Spike and Poe trying to figure out who the spy is in Black Squadron. Ultimately Poe figures out it’s Oddy, but Oddy throws in a curve ball by revealing what his true objective is. I have to admit, I didn’t see this one coming and it actually makes some sense. Without revealing the surprise, it’ll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Aside from that, we see Terex essentially telling Captain Phasma to buzz off as he promises to wipe out the Resistance for the First Order. Now at first glance this is kind of funny, but it’s also a little revealing about the First Order. Here’s Terex offering them a chance to wipe out the Resistance, and Phasma balks at the idea, saying Snoke isn’t ready to move against them yet. Again, why? Does Soule know anything about the First Order that we don’t, or is he buying for time?

In the end, there’s a skirmish on the Carrion Spike and Poe gets shot down by Terex’s pirate fleet. Whatever the world is, that’s where the next issue will be picking up. From that opening scene in space to the crash on the unnamed planet, Phil Noto continues to do a great job with the artwork providing a unique style that’s pleasing to the eyes and brings the story to life.

Poe Dameron #11 isn’t too bad with a nice mix of action, plot movement and dialog. There’s some fun moments and some interesting questions raised. Overall, I give this one a four out of five metal bikinis.
