Jinnrise #5
Jinnrise #5
Writer: Sohaib Awan
Artist: Andrew Huerta
Colorist: Stephen Downer
Letterer: Ed Brisson
Jinnrise #5 covers some ground and delivers a nice story. Kicking things off, the artwork is a little different in this issue. In comparison, it’s less stylized and cartoonish than the art we’ve seen in the previous issues of the series. The shading and details are a lot grittier on the characters. The coloring is nice and utilizes some subtle touches to emphasis focus and sunlight. Overall it looks really good.
The story in this issue definitely moves the plot forward. Andrew seals his fate and decides to venture forth with Yunis, Harris and the Jinn. They end up heading to Gibraltar in search of another Jinn. There’s action along the way, some more character development in the beginning, and the introduction of two new characters. One is Haya, a mysterious female warrior. The other is a green Jinn who Jabal labels “the traitor.” He’s the one who led to the imprisonment of the Jinn. This new Jinn’s release immediately raises some questions for the fate of the characters, however the issue ends before they our answered. Is this new Jinn an enemy or a possible ally?
With good characters, nice art and intriguing plot progression, I give Jinnrise #5 a four out of five metal bikinis. The series is building some momentum and I like where it’s going. There’s a lot to work with and plenty of potential.
