What’s not to love about I Hate Fairyland #2? It has wicked humor, wonderful artwork, and an endlessly entertaining story. Gert, the little girl trapped in Fairyland, continues to vent her vengeance on the annoyingly cute and useless denizens of this make believe world. But in this issue, get ready for some zombie goats.
Issue #1 ended with the impending threat of the Huntsman. This one takes a big step back as it introduces us to another narrator: a mouse. Catching up on the story, the narrator mouse realizes he’s in over his head. Fittingly, Gert gives him the same fate as the moon. It’s a nice way to kick things off and sets an interesting trend. Will we see another narrator in issue #3? Either way, we quickly learn the fate of the Huntsman as Gert gets drunk and starts hitting up on frog princes. Ensue the hilarious dialog. Skottie Young really hits this one out of the park.
A part from that, we see that Queen Cloudia is being setup to be the main antagonist. With the failure of the Huntsman, she seeks out a new ally against Gert. Who better than a witch? It is fairyland after all. But instead of turning people into stone or putting them to sleep, she opts for the zombie goat plague. With an entire legion of undead fawns set on the loose, Gert may be in over her head. Regardless, it makes for a fun story.
At this point, this is a series I recommend to everyone. It’s hilarious, brilliantly fun and wonderfully drawn and colored. I give I Hate Fairyland #2 a five out of five metal bikinis.
