Doctor Aphra #28 has a lot of confrontation. Aphra and Triple Zero have to deal with BT, Force fungus Tam Posla, the monster hunters, and a world full of people looking to cash them in for credits. There’s a lot of action, and a lot of dialog crammed in there, but overall, I wasn’t that swept away by the story. I’m still not really getting into the Aphra/Triple Zero forced team-up aspect. Neither of the characters have changed, and they don’t work well together. And with all the chaos in this story, I’m not sure where things are going.

The issue starts off with BT and Tam Posla confronting them. BT shoots at them and Triple Zero is incredulous that BT has turned against him. Then the monster hunters show up and there’s some dialog I really didn’t understand about them saying Aphra had a gun when she didn’t. Anyways, they end up having to turn their attention on BT. It actually gets confusing as BT and Tam are shown together, then mysteriously separate and have to get deal with separately by the monster hunters. And when they deal with both of them, Aphra and Triple Zero somehow manage to escape with the monster hunters no longer in the picture for the rest of the comic. It’s seems like a waste on top of the confusion. Adding to all of that, Dr. Evazan hijacks the holonet and broadcasts the live feed he has going to the planet Aphra and Triple Zero are on. This convinces the whole world to turn on them. Yet in the end, despite this giant army of lowlifes looking for easy credits, a little scavenger girl is the one who takes out Aphra and Triple Zero.

Honestly, it just didn’t have a big impact on me. I wasn’t feeling the story. It was okay, but it wasn’t great.

The artwork is pretty good. With all the action and shifting characters, it did its best to present the imagery of the story without being too confusing. But it’s not enough to make up for the story. As is, I give this one a three out of five metal bikinis.
