Doctor Aphra #19 continues the fun streak as the big heist pays off. How could Aphra pull this one off? Well, it’s a bit spoilery, but will spill the details.

The issue kicks off in Hivebase-1, but rather than Aphra and crew being caught defenseless, they’re in a shootout with the Imperials. Aphra talks Hera into helping her, thus buying some time while she puts the second half of her scheme into play. This involves hijacking the Rebel droid controller ship, using it’s tractor beam to rip off part of Hivebase station, unleashing the explosive Tooka’s, revealing that her weird droideka isn’t dead, and boom…all those Tooka’s are naturally drawn to power sources, like weapon emplacements, and their fire coordinate programs get renamed to the secret passphrase that causes all those little Tooka’s to explode. Thus Hivebase-1 gets neutralized and Aphra gets away.

Of course she still has to sweet talk her way out of the Rebel’s hands, thus earning her freedom. But the issue doesn’t end there. Aphra and Tolvan have some sexy time together, then Aphra takes off to deliver Triple Zero’s memories. But Tolvan pulls a double cross and follows Aphra. She wipes out Triple Zero’s crime syndicate, and puts Aphra on a shuttle that conveniently includes here custom droideka. Thus it’s all a big win for Aphra. The story took a lot of turns, but each was a fun reward. There’s action, lots of laughs, and the whole thing was entertaining. I also especially loved how the data was encrypted, which alludes to a real world hacker trick. Great stuff.

The artwork is also solid with great panels and coloring. There’s lots of detail, lots of excellent lighting, and good arrangements. The visuals are all around top notch.

With a fun story a great artwork, I give Doctor Aphra #19 a five out of five metal bikinis.
