Doctor Aphra #12 is action packed as the criminals battle the Immortal Rur and the Imperials try to kill everyone. Meanwhile, Aphra tries to escape with her life and Krrsantan wants his revenge on the Xonti brothers. Torn between survival and potential profit, Aphra makes a move that could cost her her life.

The story for Doctor Aphra #12 is solid. There’s a driving pace to this issue as people escape one predicament and wind up in another. The dialog is on point, and it’s a fun adventure. There’s plenty of action as the criminals, the Imperials, and Rur all fight each other. Darting in out between all of them is Aphra. On top of all of that, some big things happen. She negotiates a truce with Bee-Tee and Triple Zero, granting them their freedom, and keeping her presence secret from Vader. She also squares off her debt with Krrsantan by helping him bag the Xonti brothers. But the issue ends with her fate still in the air. That said, it also ends on a very climatic cliff hanger as Vader prepares to kill the Immortal Rur.

The only bad thing about this issue is the artwork. It’s not entirely bad, but it’s also not the greatest. The cartoonish style stands out with characters like Aphra and Krrsantan, but it disappears with the non-organic characters like the droids and Rur. So some characters look more realistic than others. Overall it’s still a pleasing style, but Aphra and Krrsantan can look a little off. Kev Walker tends to draw Aphra as a white character rather than an Asian character which is how she started off.

Artwork aside, the story is strong enough in this issue to earn a four out of five metal bikinis.
