Here is this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond. Be sure to check out the book and comic news. Random House has revealed two new Star Wars books and a bunch of Star Wars comic trade paperback collections for October.

Book News

  • Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void had it’s UK release yesterday, so Star Wars fans across the pond can dig into Tim Lebbon’s enjoyable launch to the beginning of the timeline. Tim has a list of retailers on his website if you need to check them out.
  • Jeffrey Brown has a new book coming out this week: Kids Are Weird. Similar to Darth Vader and Son and Vader’s Little Princess, it features full color artwork with one page comic bits. You can check Amazon’s page which has the look inside option to get a better idea.
  • Random House has updated their product page with two new Star Wars books. Unfortunately, there’s not much info on either. Simply called “Untitled Star Wars #1 by Ballantine” and “Untitled Star Wars #2 by Ballantine“, they’re both listed at 256 pages and have ISBN numbers. The #1 has a September 2 release date and #2 has a November 4 release date. This corresponds somewhat with the mysterious Amazon listing Knights Archive spotted last month for a Jedi Academy Trilogy by Ballantine. Could this mean a shift from Del Rey back to Ballantine for the Star Wars adult novel line?
  • Star Wars artist Dave Dorman is doing a new G.I. Joe art book. You can check out the details here along with a link for orders.

Comic News

  • According to Bleeding Cool, Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, along with several other reps, visited Lucasfilm last week for some Star Wars discussions. Rumor has it that there will be a “couple monthly series”. Nothing official, but it’s an interesting rumor.
  • Random House has also updated their product page with some new comic trade paperbacks. There’s Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir (October 14), Star Wars: Rebel Heist (October 21), Star Wars Volume 4: A Shattered Hope (October 28), Star Wars Legacy II Volume 4: Empire of One (October 28), and Star Wars Volume 3: Rebel Girl (October 14).

New York Comic Con 2013 brought us the big reveal of the inquisitor, but what about those stormtroopers? I know I’m not alone when I thought, “You know, those guys remind me a lot of that other show Disney put on hold.” So, you be the judge. Is it Star Wars Rebels or Star Wars: Detours?

Art

  • FANgirl Blog has been posting a bunch of awesome, original artwork featuring the characters of Empire and Rebellion: Razor’s Edge. You can check out Caline Metara (the Alderaanian pirate captain), Sian Tesar (Rebel pilot), Kifar Itran (Rebel trooper), and of course Leia.
  • Depending on how deep your pockets are, you can get this one of kind Star Wars Topps card colored by Star Wars artist Jerry Vanderstelt.
  • Star Wars artist Chris Trevas shared some cool stuff on Facebook. First off, he teased a new project he’s working on (Transformers?) and some upcoming Star Wars projects.

Chris Trevas: “Starting work on a non-Star Wars project today. What?! I think it’s been around three years since I worked on something outside that galaxy. I’m having fun painting robots from another franchise…Don’t worry. I already have another Star Wars book that will be starting fairly soon plus a few other SW projects.”

He also posted a hilarious Transformers comic cover. Continue Reading Around the Web…

Big Changes for Star Wars Animated Projects

March 11, 2013 at 11:34 am | Posted in Detours, Disney, Entertainment, News, Star Wars, Star Wars News, Television, The Clone Wars | Leave a comment

StarWars.com has just released some big announcements on Star Wars animated projects like The Clone Wars and Detours, as well as ideas for new series.

As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.

As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

At Star Wars Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we’ve decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date.

We are incredibly proud of the teams at Lucasfilm Animation for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV. Keep checking StarWars.com for new developments on these and future projects.

Be sure to check out the official site which includes a four minute video with Dave Filoni.

The Political Apocalypse

Star Wars: Detours will be bringing us more Jar Jar. Just remember with the upcoming election, a vote for Jar Jar is a vote for galactic collapse.

IGN Interview with Seth Green and Matt Senreich

September 7, 2012 at 7:46 am | Posted in Detours, Star Wars News, Television | Leave a comment

IGN posted an interview with Star Wars: Detours‘ creators Seth Green and Matt Senreich.

Luke was conspicuous by his absence in the footage I saw at your first panel at Star Wars Celebration.

Senreich: Oh, he’ll be there.

Green: Oh yeah, but Luke is a teenager that lives in the desert with his f**king uncle. [Laughs] He’s not the coolest kid on the block.

Senreich: Yeah, we talked about it on our Saturday panel [Editor’s Note: There were two panels for Detours at SWCVI – one Friday, one Saturday]. He’s the guy who Obi-Wan is constantly trying to go see and teach that he has the universe to help save, and every time he tries to go there… Well, maybe that wasn’t the first time Obi-Wan had attempted to get to Luke.

Green: That’s our thought, is that Obi-Wan never knew what the correct timing was to approach that sort of prophecy in the desert. So each time, he attempts it and it goes horribly awry. He’s just like [waving hand as if using the Force], “None of this ever happened.” And Luke starts overtime developing real gaps in his memory, and he wakes up in places and doesn’t understand why his clothes are askew. “What happened here?”
