Star Wars Insider #135 splashes the cover with some iconic characters as it kicks off a look back at 30 years of videogames. From Atari to The Old Republic, there’s quite a  collection of highlights. Beyond gaming, there’s an interview with The Clone Wars line producer Athena Portillo. Tricia Barr (FANgirl Blog) also has the honor of interview author Aaron Allston on his upcoming novel X-Wing: Mercy Kill. Aaron talks about Piggy, the new Yuuzhan Vong member of Wraith Squadron, and how he uses of humor in his books. I really liked the X-Wing art they used to illustrate the interview (which also includes a brief history of the X-Wing series). While the images aren’t new, they still look awesome. Star Wars Books posted yesterday on Facebook about some of the free goodies they’ll have available at San Diego Comic Con 2012, Star Wars Celebration VI, and New York Comic Con 2012. They included a picture which shows a pretty cool iron on Mercy Kill patch, and the cover for a sample book.

The 84 page sample book will include excerpts from all of the Star Wars novels released by Del Rey in 2012. According to Del Rey, this includes everything “from Darth Plagueis to Scoundrels” which would be Darth Plagueis, Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse, Lost Tribe of the Sith: The Collected Stories, Scourge, X-Wing: Mercy Kill, The Old Republic: Annihilation, and Scoundrels. Of even greater interest is that it will also include the short stories published in Star Wars Insider magazine during 2011. If you get the chance, be sure to pick one up.

UPDATE: They’ll also be giving away Scoundrels book marks.

Star Wars Books teased that Star Wars Insider #136 will include a short story by a new to Star Wars author which will feature a well known bounty hunter (and it’s probably not a Fett). Personally I’m hoping for Zuckuss, but Cade Bane is a pretty good possibility.

Star Wars Insider #133 ‘Hunting the Gorach’

In case you missed it, Star Wars Insider #133 is out and it features new fiction by Scourge author Jeff Grubb. The short story is entitled Hunting the Gorach and follows the Hutt Parella the Hunter.

“The stories of the Gorach said they did not age, and met their end only by violence. I think it is a single beast you have been reporting for centuries. I will bring him to heel, and place his stuffed and preserved form in my hall. He will be a piece of art for my fellow Hutts to admire as I regale them with the tale of the hunt.”

While the story is short, it has a neat ending. Plus there are some nice illustrations by Joe Corroney. It’s worth checking out.
