Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Fisherman”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Fisherman” by The Peach Kings.

The Peach Kings is a band I just discovered last week while looking for new music. They formed in 2010 and are composed by Paige Wood and Steven Dies. They only have one studio album and a couple EP’s so far, but they’ve got some good songs. “Fisherman” is from their 2012 EP Handsome Moves but it’s only available on vinyl. The digital EP doesn’t include it, but you can pick it up separately as a single.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Shoot From the Hip”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Shoot From the Hip” by Brothers Osborne.

Brothers Osborne is a country band I’ve recently come across while searching for new bands. They’ve been around since 2013, but the two brothers in the band have been playing music since they were teenagers. The band composed of T.J. Osborne (lead vocals) and John Osborne (lead guitar, background vocals). Here’s some fun trivia. T.J. is short for Thomas John, and John’s middle name is Thomas. They’re dad, Thomas John Osborne, was not the most creative when it came to naming.

They released their first single in 2013, and their first EP the next year. Their first album wouldn’t hit outlets until 2016, and to this day, they only have two albums and a live album. They’ve won some awards, hit some top 40 charts, and had some pretty good success so far.

“Shoot From the Hip” isn’t actually on any of their albums. It’s from their 2014 EP self-titled Brothers Osborne. I’ve found quite a few songs I like by them, so they’re worth checking out.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Leap of Faith”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Leap of Faith” by Ryan Kinder.

In 2018 I saw John Fogerty and ZZ Top in concert for their Blues & Bayous tour. The opening act was Ryan Kinder, a musician I had never heard of. It was just him on stage with a guitar and two backing vocalists and they were good. Really good. Surprisingly, he hasn’t put out a full album yet, just a handful of singles and an EP.

“Leap of Faith” can be found on his EP The Road or you can just buy it as a single.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Pink Noise King”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Pink Noise King” by The Brew.

The Brew is a British band from Grimsby (in northern England) formed by Jason Barwick (guitar, vocals), Kurtis Smith (drums), and Tim Smith (bass, vocals). Fun fact: Tim is Kurtis’ dad, which is something you don’t see to often with rock bands. They cut their first album in 2006 and over the years they’ve never had any lineup changes. They’ve stayed active and put out their eighth studio album last month. However, “Pink Noise King” is from their 2018 album Art of Persuasion.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Heavy”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Heavy” by The Glorious Sons.

I came across this band via their song “S.O.S.” and it led me to dive into their catalog to find more good songs, which they have quite a few of. This Canadian band has been around since 2011 and they have three studio albums. “Heavy” is off their first album The Union which came out in 2014.

The band features Brett Emmons on vocals, Jay Emmons and Andrew Young (whose been replaced by Chris Koster) on guitar, Chris Huot on bass, and Adam Paquette on drums.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Don’t Say You Love Me”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Don’t Say You Love Me” by Samantha Fish.

Samantha Fish is another musician I’ve recently discovered and I’m really loving a lot of her music. She’s got some great tracks. Whether you like something bluesy or a bit more modern, she has a nice variety.

Born in Kansas City, MO, Samantha has been playing music since she was a kid. From the drums to the guitar, and joining on stage with other musicians at the age of eighteen, she’s carved a path for herself and earned some serious respect. She put out her first album in 2009, won the 2012 Blues Music Award for Best New Artist with her album Runaway, and her albums Wild Heart (2015) and Belle of the West (2017) were ranked number 1 blues albums of the year. With ten albums under her belt, she shows no signs of stopping.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Sun Rising”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Sun Rising” by The Wanton Bishops.

The Wanton Bishops is a new band I’ve recently discovered while stuck at home with plenty of free time. They’re from Beirut, Lebanon and they’ve been around since 2011. Formed by Nader Mansour (vocals) and Eddy Ghossein (guitar), the two man band is regarded as one of the leading bands in the Middle East. They met outside the Bar Louie when Mansour tried to help Eddy out in a fist fight. Eddy paid back the favor by bailing Mansour out after another fight, and they’ve been making bluesy rock music ever since.

Right now they’ve got one album and two EP’s. “Sun Rising” is on their 2012 album Sleep with the Lights On. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “When I Paint My Masterpiece”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “When I Paint My Masterpiece” by The Band.

The sixties and seventies were decades before my time, however, I’ve always been a lover of music regardless of when it came out. Surprisingly, I went a long time without ever know who The Band was. Yes, The Band. When a musical group can simply call themselves that, they better bring it.

The group started out as a backup band for Ronnie Hawkins and later Bob Dylan. In 1970 they went off on their own as The Band and started a career that stretched into ten studio albums. If you’ve never seen the band, I highly recommend checking out the documentary that Martin Scorsese did, The Last Waltz.

There are a lot of good songs to choose from, classics like “The Weight”, “Up On Cripple Creek”, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, and “Don’t Do It.” And let us not forget, “When I Paint My Masterpiece” from Cahoots.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Under the Graveyard”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Under the Graveyard” by Ozzy Osbourne.

Ozzy has been around for a while, whether doing music with Black Sabbath or releasing songs on his own. His latest single “Under the Graveyard” will come out next month on his new album Ordinary Man. This is his first single in nine years, and it will be out on his twelfth studio album. For this song you’ve got Ozzy on vocals, Andrew Watt on guitar, Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses) on bass, and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on drums.

As an Ozzy fan, I’m looking forward to the new album next month.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Get Yourself Free”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Get Yourself Free” by The Temperance Movement.

A new band I’ve discovered is The Temperance Movement. They’ve been around since 2011 but they’ve only put out three albums, including their latest 2018 album A Deeper Cut. The new album put them on my radar, but there’s some really great songs on their older albums, like this one.

“Get Yourself Free” is from their second studio album, White Bear. The band features Phil Campbell on vocals, Luke Potashnick and Paul Sayer on guitar, Nick Fyffe on bass, and Damon Wilson on drums. They’re a mixture of culture with members from Scotland, England and Australia. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
